Leeds Loves Food: this year’s festival is expanding like never before to become the Leeds Food Festival with the widest range of events it has ever had, nobody will be going home hungry, thirsty or unfulfilled.
Leeds, and Yorkshire too, has always had a special relationship with food. As one of the top hospitality destinations in the country, people know that they’re guaranteed to see some of the best food on offer. But, Leeds and the surrounding region has the ace up its sleeve that separates it from the rest.
The strength and quality of local produce is unrivalled and Leeds Food Festival 2013 is here to document just that. But what is there to do? Well, feast your eyes below, before you feast your stomach between 24th May 2013 and 9th June 2013.
Yorkshire Food & Drink Show
As two weeks of foodie heaven comes to a close, the daddy of all events takes place in Millennium Square between 7th and 9th June 2013. The Yorkshire Food & Drink show once again takes its rightful place as top billing at the festival, and why not? In recent years as many as 50,000 people have come looking for a taste of Leeds and have gone away satisfied.
As usual, there will be a number of unique events taking place and stalls offering up the best quality and diversity Leeds has to offer. Harvey Nichols will be erecting their pop-up stand where you can sample some of the delights – sourced form the best local producers – from their newly revised Fourth Floor Café & Bar menu, whilst Casa Mia provide the adults with some delectable BBQ deities and the children with a free pizza masterclass to keep them as entertained as you.
Yorkshire Food & Drink Show on 7th – 9th June 2013 at Millennium Square.
On the same weekend, 7th-9th June 2013, should you find yourself having worn out the Yorkshire Food & Drink Show – not that it could be possible, of course – then why not take the short walk down to Victoria Gardens on The Headrow where you will be provided with the most authentic produce the region has on offer?
Not only will your favourite social city guide have their own stall there with The Leeds Food & Drink Guide in tow – come and visit us, we don’t bite – but you will be able to find other gems too. Experience the best of British; cheese lovers head to Homage2Fromage, pie fans to the Little Yorkshire Pie Co. and meat lovers to our favourite local café stall, The Greedy Pig.
There will also be examples of Yorkshire being able to produce a taste of the continent with the help of Nacos Amigos, Arslan’s Turkish Food and Le Bon Appetit whilst you will be able to treat yourself to the work of the city’s more creative minds thanks to the jewellery and gift stalls.
Handmade in Yorkshire on 7th – 9th June 2013 at Victoria Gardens, The Headrow. The new 2013 Leeds Food and Drink Guide will be on sale for £2 on each day (half of the profit goes to feeding the homeless via St George’s Crypt).
Opposite’s World Cafe
A student favourite thanks to its first branch, believe it or not, opposite University of Leeds, Opposite has now doubled in size and taken over a part of the Victoria Quarter where you will be able to taste coffee from the continent and beyond. Thanks to its specialised brew bar in front of their kiosk, Opposite will be providing single origin filter coffee as well as the chance to pick up seasonal espresso beans.
Salvo’s Italian restaurant in Headingley is playing a major role throughout the festival with two events that offer you the chance to taste the wonders of traditional Italian food – with no Dolmio jars in sight. Cenare Con Amici dinner evenings from 24th May 2013 to 7th June 2013 – provide a typical six course menu for you and a group of friends for £22.95 each, whilst the regional dinner evenings are £33.95 per person for 10 courses of the Assagi tasting menu taking the best recipes from certain parts of Italy on 25th May, 1st and 8th June 2013.
