Land this prize and you’ll get to pay a visit to Whitelock’s during the Christmas period, with a three-course dinner for you and three friends. The Whitelock’s chefs are experts in taking hearty pub grub and elevating it to new heights, and their festive menu does exactly that. Think comforting dishes that warm you from the inside out – just what you want on a crisp winter night in Leeds.

Kick things off with the likes of duck liver parfait, bacon marmalade and candied walnut on a brioche, or smoked cod and spring onion fishcake with dashi butter sauce – both shining examples of the chefs’ experimental approach to flavours. Our pick? It has to be the Five Points Porter rarebit croquettes with pickled onion mayo and hot sauce. Pub food at its finest.

For mains, there’s turkey with all the trimmings, pan-roasted salmon with mussels and chive crushed potatoes, or pork chops with cabbage and bacon. Going veggie? The butternut squash with creamy mash and sage and onion pithivier is sure to hit the spot. Whichever you go for, you can expect an abundance of texture and flavour with every bite.

Be sure to save room for dessert though, because this is serious stuff. Christmas pudding and sticky toffee fight it out in the battle of the puds, while the set lemon cream with meringue and berry compote is a refreshing way to cleanse your palate. But it’s not Christmas without a cheeseboard, and the selection at Whitelock’s is up there with the best. With all three courses polished off, all that’s left is to raise a glass – cheers!
