Go bouldering at The Climbing Lab
If you want to really flex your muscles on date night, go bouldering at The Climbing Lab. It’s rock climbing without any ropes or wires – you’ll just be using your arms and legs to power up the walls. Their introductory sessions are perfect for adventurous couples. A friendly coach will guide you through basic climbing techniques, then you can take on a variety of different vertical walls, Moon Boards and top-out ‘boulders’, cheering each other on as you scale to the top.

Sling axes at TimberJacks
Why not add a little danger into your next date and try axe throwing? It’s essentially a super-sized, extra-deadly version of darts, which sees you sling huge axes at a target. Head to TimberJacks and their instructors will teach you how to wield the weapons before you hit the lanes. Have a few practise throws, then you can get competitive and see who can bag the highest score. They also have fun challenges like Smashing Apples, where Granny Smith’s are suspended in front of targets for you to smash to smithereens.

Race through the treetops at Go Ape
An aerial assault course suspended 15 metres up in the air, Go Ape is sure to get your date’s heart-racing in more ways than one. Take on this thrilling high wire course and you’ll get to run, jump, climb and swing through the canopy, facing everything from wobbly bridges to narrow platforms along the way. There’s even a 60-metre zip line to whizz you through the forest before the big finale – an 11-metre free-fall back to solid ground. It’s certainly not a date you’ll forget in a hurry.

Take a hike with an alpaca
What’s better than a romantic stroll through the countryside? A romantic stroll with a couple of alpacas in tow, of course! Treeside Alpacas is a family-run farm that offers alpaca treks with their herd and it’s a wonderful adventure for all animal-loving couples. You’ll be paired up with one of their furry friends, then set off on a hike through beautiful woodland and rolling fields. You can even pet, feed and snap a selfie with your new pal along the way.

Make a splash at Yeadon Tarn
There are loads of fun and exhilarating watersports to plunge into as a couple at Yeadon Tarn. You can explore every inch of the tarn on kayaks, canoes, row boats and stand up paddle boards. If you’re a couple of thrill-seekers, why not try windsurfing? They run beginners courses where you’ll learn to catch the wind and race across the water – but be prepared to get thoroughly soaked! After you’ve dried off, take advantage of the picturesque parkland surrounding the tarn and enjoy a picnic after a romantic stroll.

Bounce around at Gravity
You can unleash your inner kid at Gravity, a trampoline park in Kirkstall. You’ll have a ball defying gravity as you bounce, flip and tumble across over 100 trampolines and onto giant air bags. There are loads of different jump zones to explore. Competitive couples can battle it out on their dodgeball court while sporty pairs can play a super-springy game of basketball. They’re launching an After Dark Party too, where pop hits will be blasted out of the speakers on Friday evenings so you can bust a move as you bounce.

Learn survival skills at Hazlewood Castle
Ever wondered what would happen if you were dropped in the middle of nowhere with your partner? Well, you can find out at Live for Today’s bushcraft experience. Led by an expert, you’ll venture into Hazlewood Castle’s historic woods and learn how to survive off the absolute bare minimum in nature. Be prepared to get down and dirty because it’s a hands-on experience where you’ll work together to build a fort and start a fire. Dates don’t get more wild than this.

Glide across the ice at Planet Ice
What better way to break the ice than with, well, ice? The city’s brand new ice rink Planet Ice is here, so strap on your skates and bring that special someone along. There’s a freestyle skate session on every day, where you can take to the ice and glide around the rink hand in hand. Romantic, active and certainly memorable – it’s the perfect date. After you’ve wizzed round the rink, you can warm back up over a hot drink in the cafe.

Go foraging with Edible Leeds
This isn’t your ordinary dinner date. Join Craig Worral on one of his Edible Leeds foraging tours and you’ll get to venture into the countryside to find your own all-natural grub. Craig will take you to all the best spots to pick fresh ingredients in Leeds, including fungi, berries and nettles. Many of his sessions end in a cook-out, where he’ll demonstrate how to use foraged ingredients to create delicious meals so you can tuck into all the goodies you found.
Edible Leeds run foraging walks across Leeds and Yorkshire throughout the year.
Take a shot at combat archery
This is archery, but not as you know it. Combat archery is a Hunger Games-inspired activity that’s essentially a cross between archery and paintball. You’ll team up with your partner and use a real bow and arrow to fire straight at the opposition (don’t worry – all the arrows are foam-tipped). You can run wild on their awesome pitch, hiding in bunkers and behind barricades as you take on a series of fun challenges. If you like to keep things competitive, battle it out against one another on opposite teams.
