Two new record stores and an escape game are coming to Leeds, and we’ve got the lowdown on them…

Right then, we’ve got three new additions coming soon to Leeds, and believe it or not, there isn’t a bar or restaurant in sight. In fact, this week we have two new independent shops to tell you about, both of which will have the musos among you in raptures, and there’s a new escape game coming to town too…

Doghouse Bar and Record Store

212 Cafe and Bar has become one of the coolest hangouts in the city on Brewery Wharf, with its cool interiors, varied drinks selection and frequently manned decks. The latter is their priority with their next move too, as they prepare to further the regeneration of Kirkgate by opening up a brand new bar that’s also home to a record shop. That’s not all though, as they’re inviting independent artists and designers to take over a monthly pop-up shop and gallery – it sounds like a perfect addition to Kirkgate’s growing indie offering.

Doghouse Bar and Record Store will open on Kirkgate in August or September 2016.

We already have a few escape games in Leeds, but it never hurts to have another, and Great George Street is set to welcome one of the original names in the business, above Veritas. Parapark have been going for over a decade, starting in Hungary before branching out across the world, and this franchise in Leeds will be their first in the UK. In groups of 3 to 6, teams will be locked in one of a number of specially themed rooms, each of which will contain a series of codes, riddles and clues to decipher if you want to get out.

Parapark will open on Great George Street this Autumn.

Vinyl Fixx

Record stores haven’t been this popular for nearly three decades, and that means Leeds has room for a few more. Vinyl Fixx is set to open up on Tong Road in Armley, and is the baby of Ian Brookes. He’s a local lad who’s been hawking his wares at record fairs across the UK for years, and is about to open up a brand new second hand record shop. Specialising in punk, indie and metal music, it will also have music memorabilia, turntables, amps and speakers – everything you need to indulge your love of vinyl.

Vinyl Fixx will open on Tong Road in Armley by the end of May 2016.
