The sun is shining, and you want to share it with someone special, but what should you do?
Summer is the perfect time to see everything the city has to offer, especially if you have someone to share it with. From a huge open-air swimming pool to rooftop bars, street food festivals and more, Leeds has plenty of places for a date on a sunny day. These are just a few of the best…
See the city by bike
Want to see all the sights Leeds has to offer but don’t fancy walking miles in the sun? You’re in luck thanks to Bike & Go’s bike share scheme. Available from Leeds Station, each bike comes complete with seven gears, front and back lights and nifty storage holders at each end. After an annual subscription fee of £10, your ride will cost just £3.80 for the whole day. So grab your date, pick a destination and away you go!

Marvel at the moors from Ilkley Lido
When the sun’s out, we all get the urge for a cool, refreshing dip somewhere, and Ilkley Lido is the perfect place to go. An enormous 45-metre outdoor pool and a smaller indoor one means you and your date can splash about and soak up some well-deserved sunshine, safe in the knowledge that there’s somewhere to go if the clouds gather. What’s more, the gorgeous sun-drenched views over Ilkley Moor are worth the price of admission alone, which is £8.30 for an adult ticket at peak times.

Take a stroll in the sun with a waterfront pub crawl
A sunny waterfront walk is always one of Leeds’ most picturesque dates, especially if you throw in a few pubs along the way. The best place to start is The Vesper Gate, just next to Kirkstall Abbey. You’ll want to stick close to the River Aire for the sunniest views, with heaps of outdoor waterfront bars waiting when you reach Leeds, with highlights including The Hop and Craft Asylum, or Water Lane Boathouse on the other side of Granary Wharf.
Walk an alpaca through the countryside
Alpaca trekking is the perfect way to get out in the fresh air for a couple of hours. You won’t be alone, instead, you’ll be sharing your date with a pair of woolly gatecrashers. You’ll cover the scenic grounds of Moss Carr Farm and take care of your cheeky friends along the way. Will you walk Chester, the gentle giant, or Ambo, a greedy fella known to snack on hedgerows en-route?

Soak up the sunshine at Headrow House
One of Leeds’ best beer gardens, you can’t go far wrong with a summery date at Headrow House. Sister bar to Belgrave Music Hall, this three-tiered venue has it all – a restaurant, multiple bars and terraces a-plenty. To catch the most rays with your special someone, check out the heady heights of the top-floor Kennedy Meadows. With views over the Victoria Quarter and Kirkgate Market, it’s well worth a visit. There’s even Headrow House’s own cocktail bar, Redondo Beach, down the steps too.

Take to the water at Yeadon Tarn
What about those of us that like an ‘active’ date, we hear you cry? Well, Yeadon Tarn, of course. Just a few miles outside of the city centre, this enormous lake offers open water canoeing, kayaking and rafting for starters. If you and your date are tempted to try something a little trickier, the Activity Centre also does windsurfing, dinghy sailing, and even powerboating.

Snaffle street food in the sun
If you’re foodies, Eat North is a no-brainer. This weekly street food festival comes to North Brewing Co. every Saturday during the summer. From loaded bao buns to stuffed tacos, there’s plenty of grub to go with their freshly brewed craft beer. Grab a spot in the sun and soak up the live DJs or get stuck into their bar games to tap into your competitive side.
