You can’t beat a good pantomime at Christmas and this year, you have 8 spectacular productions to see in Leeds. There’s the classic tale of Cinderella, a rock ’n’ roll version of Red Riding Hood and even an extra-cheeky, adult-only take on Beauty and the Beast. Each one is filled with the usual crazy panto antics – think corny gags, colourful costumes and loads of singalong tunes. It makes for a fantastic day out for all the family, so snap up your tickets pronto.
The beloved tale of Sleeping Beauty is coming to the Carriageworks stage. Transported to a land far, far away, you’ll watch as Princess Ariana is cursed to sleep for 100 years by the evil Carabosse. Will Muddles the Jester, Prince Benedict and friends ever be able to wake her? Find out as you follow them on their heroic quest. It’s being produced by PHA and they’re known for their larger-than-life performances, so expect amazing magic acts, plenty of audience participation and big song and dance numbers.
Sleeping Beauty comes to Carriageworks Theatre from Friday 22nd November 2019 to Saturday 4th January 2020.
Red Riding Hood Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto
The Rock ’n’ Roll Panto is back at Leeds City Varieties. This year, they’ve chosen to inject the classic story of Red Riding Hood with a dose of rip-roaring rock music. The multi-talented cast will jump between acting and playing in the on-stage band as you watch Little Red’s journey through the deep, dark woods. She’ll face big, bad beasts and ground-shaking boulder battles on her way, so get ready for an action-packed show with a belting sing-along soundtrack.
Red Riding Hood Rock ’n’ Roll Panto comes to Leeds City Varieties from Friday 29th November 2019 to Sunday 12th January 2020.
Santa’s Panto Breakfast
For the ultimate pantomime experience in Leeds, head to Stockeld Park’s Santa’s Panto Breakfast. It kicks off with a festive feast at 8am, where you can gorge on a cooked breakfast, cereal and pastries. Once you’ve filled your belly, sit back and enjoy the story of the Three Little Pigs. It’s a Christmas twist on the age-old fairytale, with the pigs fighting off the big bad wolf to help Santa save the day. At the end, all the kids are invited up on stage to collect a gift from the big man himself.
Santa’s Panto Breakfast comes to Stockeld Park every weekend from Saturday 30th November to Sunday 29th December 2019.
Robin Hood and The Babes in The Wood
St Mary’s Church is being transformed into the wilds of Sherwood Forest for their performance of Robin Hood and The Babes in The Wood. Local actors from Whitkirk Arts Guild are taking to the stage for one night only to bring you a new production of this family-favourite. You’ll join the dashing hero Robin Hood and his rag-tag band of Merry Men as they embark on an adventure to save Maid Marian from the cruel clutches of the Sheriff. Jam-packed with hilarious hijinks and laugh-out-loud gags, you won’t want to miss this Leeds panto.

The Beauty and The Beest
This one’s just for grown ups. Leeds University Union’s Pantomime Society have completely re-imagined the tale of Beauty and the Beast, turning it into a raucous, sexually-charged comedy with an ironic university twist. After Belle’s clumsy father destroys Malakai Beest’s dissertation, she’s taken captive by the monstrous masters student. At first, Belle is repulsed by his beastly ways, but soon a strange love blossoms between them. It’s a fresh and funny take on a classic panto, so go and check it out.
The Beauty and The Beest comes to Leeds University Union on Wednesday 11th to Saturday 14th December 2019.
You can see the classic rags-to-riches tale of Dick Whittington at Guiseley Theatre this Christmas. When Dick embarks on a quest to find fame and fortune in London, the city isn’t all he imagined it to be. You’ll follow his adventure through the big smoke as he fights off rodent royalty and meets a magical fairy queen, all with his faithful feline friend by his side. This lively show is filled with classic panto fun, so expect plenty of corny gags, catchy songs and over-the-top characters.
Dick Whittington comes to Guiseley Theatre from Sunday 29th December 2019 to Sunday 5th January 2020.
Cinderella is one of the most popular pantomimes of all time and you can see it in all its glory at Yeadon Town Hall this year. You’ll follow Cinderella on one magical night when, with the help of the Fairy Godmother, she’s transformed from a poor and penniless housemaid into a beautiful princess. Will she find her Prince Charming at the ball? Or will her ugly stepsisters get in the way? Complete with all the magic, glitz and glamour a fairytale should have, it promises to be Yeadon Town Hall’s best pantomime yet.
Cinderella comes to Yeadon Town Hall from Friday 17th to Saturday 25th January 2020.
You can fly away to Neverland this Christmas with the Carriageworks’ second pantomime of the season in Leeds. That’s right, as well as Sleeping Beauty, they’re putting on an all-singing, all-dancing performance of Peter Pan. Join the Darling children on the adventure of their lives as they help Peter and Tinkerbell outsmart the conniving Captain Hook. It’s a swashbuckling show filled with awesome sword fights, slapstick comedy and one very hungry crocodile. Tick-tock, tick-tock – it’s time to snap up some tickets!
Peter Pan comes to Carriageworks Theatre from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th January 2020 and Tuesday 28th January to Saturday 1st February 2020.
