The May half term is nearly here, and there are oodles of fun events and activities in Leeds that will help keep the little ones busy during the school holidays. From celebrating the Jubilee with a picnic to discovering Roman history in gritty detail, there’s stacks to do. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your half term adventures, stat!
National Festival Circus. The circus has come to Leeds for half term! Between Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June 2022, the circus will be making itself at home at Stockeld Park. We’re talking hilarious slapstick clowns, impressive jugglers, baffling magicians, balancing equilibrists and more! After the show, explore the incredible adventure playgrounds too.
Superhero Museum Mission. Get your cape and your mask, we’re going to Leeds City Museum. From Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June 2022, they’ve got a mission sheet that’ll test your creativity, strength and wisdom as you explore the exhibitions. You can also join them for their Superhero Fun Days where you can join in with craft activities and add to the giant display.
Around the World in 80 Stories. From Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June 2022, Lotherton is delving into stories from across the world. You can traverse space and time as you explore the Edwardian estate, through engaging storytellers, kid-friendly crafts and interesting activities for the whole family to get involved in.
Bloody Romans! For this half term in Leeds, the Royal Armouries has been taken over by Romans! From Saturday 28th May to Sunday 5th June 2022, you can discover the world of the Roman warrior, from what armour and weapons he used to the battles he fought in. There’ll also be live chariot racing, actual battles and infantry drill demonstrations.
Jubilee Celebrations. Celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee at Temple Newsam from Saturday 28th May to Thursday 2nd June 2022. You can head into the house for activities inspired by the Kings and Queens of times gone by. The Thursday will be a special day – entry to the house and the farm is only £5, and you get to join others with your own picnic on the west lawn.
Half Term Activity Camp. From Monday 30th May to Wednesday 1st June 2022, The Hunslet Club in Leeds is putting on a half term activity camp. Each child gets to pick six different activities each day, and there’s so much to choose from. There’s football, baking, dance, IT, arts & crafts, dodgeball, the list goes on! At the end of the day, there’s a disco to get you dancing too.
Pop-Up Potions & Wish Forest. Tranquility Season has come to Thackray for half term. You can leave a leaf on their mindful tree – just write down your thoughts, tie them to the tree and leave them behind. You can also learn about the wonderful treatments made from plants, from folklore to modern medicine. Catch it from Monday 30th May to Friday 3rd June 2022.
Great British Food Festival. Looking for family-friendly foodie events this half term in Leeds? Harewood House is the place to be! The Great British Food Festival will be there from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022 with everything from artisan producers and hot food vendors to activities for kids and live music. Don’t miss it!
Tin Man. Discover a magical retelling of The Wizard of Oz that puts the Tin Man front and centre, presented by Joss Arnott Dance. It explores how he might have coped up against the Wicked Witch of the West as well as the friends he might have made along get way. It comes to The Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th June 2022.
Leeds Wool Festival 2022. Leeds Industrial Museum is playing host to Leeds Wool Festival on Saturday 4th June 2022. There’s going to be indie craft stalls, textile workshops, special performances and live weaving demonstrations, all celebrating the wonders of wool. You can even grab a cup of tea and a bite to eat at the pop-up tea rooms.
