Sonic the Hedgehog, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto – Play! promises a night of surprisingly familiar tunes for an absolutely bargainous price.
It’s not often you get to say classical music and video gaming in the same breath, but that’s what makes Play! so interesting. You see, their live orchestra will be playing the songs that soundtracked your life as you battled Doctor Robotnik in Sonic, outwitted the Templars in Assassin’s Creed and shot ‘em up in Call of Duty. But it’s fair to say – you ain’t never heard ‘em like this before.
Play! is coming to Leeds Town Hall on Tuesday 20th March 2018 – and you can get tickets for just £10. So what are you waiting for?
Treat yourself to a night of unexpected classics
Play! is the work of famous British conductor Charles Hazlewood – for him, video games opened up an incredible new world of music, never before performed by a live orchestra, but he also saw the potential to introduce classical music to a new audience. And so, he created a symphonic rollercoaster that will take you from the old 8-bit games of your childhood, all the way to the modern day.
Performed by The British Paraorchestra, the first professional ensemble for musicians with a disability, and Army of Generals, a dynamic modern orchestra who recently went on tour with Father John Misty and The Unthanks, this promises to be an incredible night of music. And it’s not just gaming classics. Alongside extended pieces from Tetris, Bioshock, Mass Effect and Angry Birds, you’ll hear the classical masterpieces that inspired these iconic scores.
