Millennium Square hosts ice skating to end 2022!

Ice Cube, Leeds

It’s not just cold weather coming to Leeds this winter – our favourite ice rink returns to Millennium Square for five weeks of fun this Christmas season.

Every year, Millennium Square is taken over by a host of fun winter activities for all ages – and 2022 will be no different. Ice Cube is back from Friday 25th November until Saturday 31st December 2022, with ice skating, family funfair rides and all manner of festive food and drink. So wrap up warm, get your skates on and make the most of the most wonderful time of year!

Get your skates on!

The indoor ice rink is back, which means whatever the weather, you can always have a fantastic day out at Ice Cube. Made of real ice, the 400-square-metre ice rink has plenty of space to test out your skating skills. It’s open to adults and kids alike – you can even get lessons if you’re just starting out, with 15-minute one-to-one sessions led by experts every Saturday and Sunday morning. The rink is also open to wheelchair users and other disabled persons across all skating sessions and on dedicated accessible sessions every Thursday at 10am.

All skaters, no matter the age, will be on the same rink just like in previous years, but the little ones can find their feet with their special penguin skating aids – and of course, mum and dad can help them along. They also have safety helmets to hire, giving you a little extra peace of mind. If you want a completely family-friendly experience, go from 10am on Saturday and Sunday mornings for The Penguin Club, which is solely for adults with children under 9.

Want to get out on the ice? Here’s the brass tacks. A 45-minute session will set you back £11.50 for adults, £10.50 for LeedsCard holders and £9 for kids aged 12 and under, while Penguin Club Sessions are priced at £15 for a parent and child under 9. Breeze Pass holders will get an extra 10% discount off all admission prices, while groups of 10 or more can enjoy skating for £10 per person.

Ice Cube is open to the public Monday to Friday from 12am to 9.45pm, with sessions running on the hour every hour. There are even more opportunities to hit the ice on the weekend and during the school holidays when it opens from 10am, then closes at 9.45pm on Friday and Saturday. It closes at 7pm on Sundays, on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when it also closes at 9.45pm, and is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Even more wintery fun

Ice Cube, Millennium Square

There’s more to Ice Cube than just skating. You can check out all the rides – this time, the Starflyer is back so you can soar over 30 metres into the sky and spin 360 degrees and the North Pole Funhouse promises 27 moving surprises across three floors of festive fun. There are a bunch of smaller rides across Millennium Square too, alongside the Golden Gallopers on Cookridge Street and the Wheel of Light on Victoria Gardens.

If you get hungry or thirsty at Ice Cube, you’re spoilt for choice. There are lanes of Alpine-inspired chalet-style food huts selling global street food. If you fancy a couple of Christmas tipples, the Christmas Tree Bar will be positioned between the owls of Leeds Civic Hall, while the Ski Bar is a new addition – expect gondolas, chairlifts and an illuminated Ski Bear to go with cocktails, craft beers and festive favourites like mulled wine. Need more? Thor’s Tipi Bar is open just around the corner on Victoria Gardens.

Ice Cube will be at Millennium Square from Friday 25th November until Saturday 31st December 2022. Tickets go on sale from Friday 21st October 2022.
