The rumour mill has been going wild for months, but getting information has been like herding, well, cats – until now!
That’s right! We’ve got official confirmation that the Kitty Café will open, not in the Merrion Centre as previously thought, but on Kirkgate, the city’s oldest street. And there’s a treat in store too, because you won’t even have to wait until next year – they’re squeezing in a 2017 opening, so get ready to meet their furry friends on Monday 11th December 2017.
The new café will take up residence on 8-9 Kirkgate, in the old Yorkshire Bank. They’re treating the venue to a £500,000 refit, which will include a custom-built kitty playground, so you can watch their feline friends scrambling around while you enjoy a well-deserved cuppa. Of course, it’s not just tea. They’ll have a range of tasty treats, as well as cat-themed drinks and mocktails for you to get stuck into.
All their cats come from local Leeds rescue centres, and their time at the Kitty Café is a little bit like a holiday. They’ll meet people, socialise and get used to being around groups, before being re-homed.
Now, as you’ve probably guessed, they’re expecting the new Kitty Café to be hugely popular – so they’re taking pre-bookings now, starting with their Kitty Club members. If you’re not a member, you’ll have to join, or wait until they open bookings to the public on 28th November 2017.
The Kitty Café will open on Monday 11th December 2017.
