From luxurious hotels in 18th-century manors to meadow yurts in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, these are the ultimate Yorkshire escapes.
Stay in a luxurious manor house
If you’re out to impress your other half, Crab Manor Hotel is the obvious choice. The hotel itself is incredibly impressive, with 20 rooms, each decorated in a fabulously different style. You can choose from grand Ritz-style rooms, Scandinavian pine cabins and traditional rooms in the 18th-century Georgian manor, filled with antiques.
Stay here, and you’ll be treated to free canapés in the lounge from 7pm-8pm, as well as access to their sauna and hot tub. But that’s not the only perk. The Crab & Lobster restaurant is just as famous as the hotel, with a choice of gourmet dishes, ranging from locally-sourced seafood to English classics. A word of warning, this is an extremely popular escape, so you’ll have to book very early indeed – you need to start thinking about Valentine’s Day 2021 now.

Cosy up in a restored corn mill
First built as a corn mill in the 1780s, Low Mill is now a luxurious bed and breakfast nestled in the heart of Wensleydale. Many of its original features have been lovingly restored, including the impressive waterwheel. It’s a quiet retreat and there are only three rooms, so you won’t be battling any crowds.
If you want to go all out, book The Workshop. Not only is it their biggest room, but it also boasts real, working mill machinery. Expect traditional oak fittings, beams and furniture, with huge windows overlooking the riverside gardens. There’s an irresistibly comfy emperor-sized bed too. In the morning, you’ll be treated to a freshly cooked breakfast – they do everything from pancake stacks to a full English. Make the most of the countryside during the day, then cosy up next to the log-burner in your room at night.

Escape to a woodland hideaway
If you want to escape the city and lose yourself in the countryside for a few days, the North Star Club has to be high on your list of places to go. Nestled in 500 acres of woodlands in the Yorkshire Wolds, it’s a forest holiday with a difference, so your trusty tent will be replaced with one of eight uniquely decorated woodland suites, all kitted out with a small fridge, a hair dryer and a gas fired BBQ.
For the ultimate romantic break, go for the Star Suite. Not only is it beautifully decorated, with beams made of trees giving you a fabulous indoors-outdoors feeling, but it also has a rustic four-poster bed, a stunning copper bath and its very own private infra-red sauna. You can arrange for BBQ packs and hampers to be delivered to your accommodation, but why not try one of the local eateries? The Pipe and Glass promises Michelin Star quality, but even their local pub, The Star Inn at Sancton, is award-winning.

Have a magical night in the Ground Keeper’s Cottage
Ever wanted to escape to a fantasy land? At North Shire, you can do just that. They’ve created an intimate little cottage, inspired by one of the most iconic buildings in Harry Potter – Hagrid’s hut. Lit by lanterns, full of rustic charm and surrounded by rolling fields, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped right into the wizarding world.
Inside, there are three interlocking circular rooms. You’ll sleep in a double-bedroom fit for a half-giant and the luxurious bathroom is fitted with an amazing roll-top copper bath and emerald green tiles. There are lots of whimsical touches in the living space too, with goblets, cauldrons and a stone-effect fire place. You might even spot a peacock strutting around the grounds. It’s self-catered, so you can rustle up a romantic dinner and play a board game or head out to the Water Wheel Inn for a couple of pints.

Hide out in a treehouse made for couples
You can treat your other half to a night under the stars at the Dale Farm Treehouse. This hidden gem in the heart of the North York Moors National Park has been designed with couples in mind and it’s the perfect place to getaway from the humdrum of the city.
There’s a comfy double bed, a proper shower, a private toilet and free wifi on site, so you’re not completely cut off. The outdoor kitchen comes with a fridge, a barbecue and a chiminea, so you can cook up a romantic meal and take it out onto the dining deck where the log burning fire will keep you warm long into the night. If you want a day out while you’re there, you’re only a few miles from the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast, which is a wonderful spot for walking.

Wake up to the views that inspired Wuthering Heights
For something a little bit different, try Higher Scholes Cottage. It’s tucked away in the heart of the Yorkshire Moors, with stunning views of the countryside that once inspired the Brontë Sisters – what could be more romantic than that?
The cottage itself is exactly what you’d expect – rustic, but in the most stylish way, with a four-poster bed, a real log fire and a roll top bath. The best bit though, has to be the private hot tub, which means you can take in the views or sit out under the stars, even in the heart of winter. As luxurious as it is though, you’ll still want to go out and explore with a medley of walks on your doorstep.

Sleep under the stars in a luxury geodome
Camp Katur is a beautiful little glamping village, set in the 250-acre Camp Hill Country Manor Estate. You’ll find all kinds of quirky accommodation here, from bo-ho yurts to hobbit hideaways, but the geodomes and unidomes are the most romantic of all. These secluded little pods have huge transparent panels that let you gaze up at the starry sky as you fall asleep.
The domes are hidden deep in the woods, so you’ll get sweeping views of the wilderness while you’re tucked up in a cosy double bed. You can sleep in an intimate unidome strung with fairy lights or go all out with their geodome, which comes with its own kitchenette, hot gas shower, fire-pit and BBQ. You’ll also have full access to the communal facilities – prepare for music and singalongs around the campfire.

Glamping in the countryside
Want to get back to nature, while staying in the lap of luxury? Then Swinton Bivouac is the perfect choice. You’ll find it in the Swinton Estate, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, where they have a mix of tree lodges and meadow yurts. It’s a fabulous escape from city life, in a beautifully rustic setting.
Expect eclectic furniture, wood-fired stoves and stunning views, with skylights in the tree lodges, so you can look out at the stars from the comfort of your bed. There’s no electricity here, but that’s all part of the fun – and when you’re not enjoying your accommodation, you can head out to explore with a range of activities and attractions nearby, including Druid’s Temple, a historical site and folly constructed during the late 1800s.
