Use your gogglebox geekery to earn kudos with your mates down at the Game of Thrones quiz night at Belgrave Music Hall on 13th April 2014.
Brace yourselves… the Game of Thrones fandom will be marching on Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen and fighting it out with more ruthlessness than a battle between Lannisters and Starks.
And for what reason? Well, in the spirit of the ever brilliant Geeks Inc, it’s to be crowned the most knowledgeable (read as: geekiest) Game of Thrones fan in the whole of Leeds (or Yorkshire if you want to have something a little bigger to brag about).
Y’see, Geeks Inc. are all about facilitating the devout nerd that lies within each of us. Since February 2013, they’ve been giving fans of the likes of Sherlock, Arrested Development, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, amongst others, the chance to pit their wits against other fans.
From The Monarch pub in Camden Town, they’ve been forced to come up with a name, logo and a way to get their quizzes out of the capital to other parts of the country – a sure fire sign of success if there was ever one. And obviously, they’ve arrived in Leeds at the ever wonderful Belgrave Music Hall with Game of Thrones and Sherlock (11th May 2014, for your diaries).
Few have managed to transport the geek culture over to the mainstream world better than Game of Thrones. The HBO show is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Wire’, a series of 7 novels, of which only five are currently completed.
In its three seasons, it has gone from Sky Atlantic landmark, to a global sensation, with the binge watching masses entrenched in the world of Westeros and Essos (and of course, the inimitable Sean Bean). It uses these fictional continents and multiple interweaving plot lines to tackle concepts of loyalty, morality, decency, social hierarchy, war, crime and punishment amidst a deluge of sex and violence – the perfect modern fantasy work? Quite possibly so.
So get your boxsets out, swat up and head to Belgrave Music Hall for booze, food and one hell of a competitive Sunday night – it’s far better than lying awake thinking of Monday morning after all…
Geek Inc.’s Game of Thrones Quiz is at Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen on Sunday 13th April 2014 at 6pm. £2 entry.
