It’s one of the most popular family events of the summer, so you’ll be pleased to know that City Beach is back for 2019.
Leeds is hours from the seaside in every direction, so it’s not always easy to escape to a sandy beach. Luckily, you won’t have to go that far, because City Beach is set to return to Leeds from Saturday 10th August until Sunday 1st September 2019. Victoria Gardens, the space just outside Leeds Art Gallery, will once again be transformed into a landlocked seafront, complete with deck chairs, ice cream stalls and fairground rides for three long weeks of fun.
The first thing you need to know about City Beach is that it’s free. You can go in, pull up a deck chair and chill out for the afternoon while the kids build sandcastles. They’re going to have their own soundtrack from Heart Yorkshire, and on Sunday mornings, the little ones will be able to play beach games and join in organised activities with the Heart Angels.
So far, it’s a cheap and cheerful day out, but if you want to make the most of everything they have to offer, you’ll have to put your hand in your pocket. They’ve got a whole host of fairground rides for you to try. You can go bouncing on the Bamboo Bungee Trampolines, board the train ride or take a spin on the Miami Surf – the choice is yours.
With so much to do, you’ll surely work up an appetite and they’ve got you covered with a beach BBQ – you can get all your favourites, without firing up the barbie yourself. Got a sweet tooth? They’ll also have a traditional seaside sweet stall where you can pick up a stick of rock and a slushie stall in case you need to cool off.
City Beach will be at Victoria Gardens from 10:30am to 6pm every day from Saturday 10th August until Sunday 1st September 2019. Free entry.
