It’s back! Opera North’s Whistle Stop Opera will return on Friday 16th February 2018, but this time it’s taking inspiration from the big, bad Don Giovanni…
For one day only, Opera North will take over an empty unit in Trinity Leeds for a quick-fire performance of Don Giovanni. This will be like no opera you’ve ever seen, and you can leave your preconceptions at the door, because they’re going to show you Mozart’s darkest, craziest opera in a short, snappy pop-up performance. It’s got passion, it’s got tension, it’s got all the best songs from the opera, but you can watch it on your lunch break with a beer in hand.
Turn your lunch break into a cultural adventure
Created by Opera North’s very own John Savournin, a man who’s both a singer and director, this inventive pop-up experience will tell the story of Don Giovanni. He’s a serial womaniser with over 2,700 notches on his bedpost, and not all of them came willingly, but he’ll get his comeuppance. Usually it’s three hours long, but they’ve cut it down to 30 minutes, with a versatile cast of three singers and an accordion player. This is your chance to see a wonderfully modern take on a classic opera – and for a bargain price too.
Enjoy a tasty lunch from Mr. D’s Magnificent Pie Machine
One of Trinity Kitchen’s latest street food vendors, Mr. D’s Magnificent Pie Machine serves up a tantalising array of, yes, you guessed it – pies. So you’ll be treated to Mr D’s Unique Individual Steak Pie or their signature Butternut & Feta Pastry, served with mushy peas or mash, and oodles of gravy. These guys won Best Main Dish at The Great British St. Food Awards last year, so you’re in for a real treat.
