Doncaster Dome

You can treat the kids all year round with a trip to one of these water parks.

If you want a day out at a water park that the whole family will love, Yorkshire is full of them. They come in all shapes and sizes and they’re right on your doorstep. You can head to indoor venues kitted out with flumes and wave machines or make a beeline for outdoor water parks with floating inflatable obstacle courses. It’s time to pack up your swimsuits and get exploring.

Calypso Cove

An indoor water park with pirate-themed decor, Calypso Cove is the ideal place for kids with a wild imagination. Among the barrels and tropical plants, you’ll find three different pools, including an under 8s area for any little adventurers. You can whizz down the trio of flumes or climb aboard the Sunken Galleon to fire water canons – just watch out for the tipping bucket! It’s also one of the only water parks in Yorkshire with a dedicated diving board area.

Alpamare

One of the biggest and best water parks in Yorkshire, Alpamare is the ultimate family day out. Not only does it have indoor and outdoor pools, but it also has its own spa. You can whizz down four different slides, from the twisting Cresta Run to the four-man Snow Storm, or take the little ones to the kids area with slides, tipping buckets and fountains. The fun continues outside, where two 35-degree pools and a sun terrace await.

Huddersfield Leisure Centre Splash Park

Huddersfield Leisure Centre has an action-packed indoor water park. It’s been designed for little ones – they can splash around in the fountains and shallow pools or play with the tipping buckets. There’s a tube slide that criss-crosses through the room, but one of the major highlights is the famous Sidewinder. It’s a huge U-shaped structure which you can slide up and down using a rubber dingy until you finally slow down.

The Dome

Calypso Cove at Metrodome Leisure Complex

The Dome is home to the biggest water park in South Yorkshire. It boasts seven interlinked pools against an Amazonian backdrop and has loads of water features, from geysers to water canons. You can whizz down three main slides, including the adrenalin-pumping Blackhole that twists around the building. They also have fast and turbulent water rapids outside, but don’t worry, the water is nice and warm.

North Yorkshire Water Park

North Yorkshire Water Park has an abundance of water activities, from kayaking to pedalo boats, but their gigantic floating obstacle course is an absolute must-try. A network of giant inflatables on Wykham Lakes, you’ll bounce and clamber your way to the end of the course, where you’ll be catapulted into the water by giant blast bags. It has everything from four-man seesaws to great big slides, all of which will see you getting soaked.

Surf City Leisure Pool

Surf City Leisure Pool is an indoor water park at Ponds Forge Sports Centre and it’s packed with with plenty of fun activities. They have two covered flumes that wind around the outside the building, a float-filled lazy river and an impressive wave pool – they’ll sound a siren when the waves are due to start. The main pool has been created with families in mind, so you can bring your tiny tots to play in the water features and go down the dolphin slides.

Sheffield Cable Waterski and Aqua Park

A Total Wipeout-inspired experience, Sheffield Cable Waterski and Aqua Park is one of the most popular family-friendly attractions in South Yorkshire. It’s an outdoor water park set on the lake at Rother Valley Country Park that guarantees plenty of tumbles and laughs. In your mission to complete the course, you’ll cross huge trampolines and go up towering climbing frames. One of the trickiest obstacles is the balancing bridge – see if you can make it across!
