From pumpkin-picking festivals to devilish DJ sets, scary film screenings to zombie band reunions, there’s something to get everyone’s bones shaking this October. Halloween nights out

Den of Delirium: Halloween in Space. Get ready for an out-of-this-world night in space at Sheaf St in the Den of Delirium’s Halloween special on Saturday 15th October 2022. Mistress Lolita Laytex and DJ Paizan are playing all the tunes, while cabaret, pole and burlesque performers bring your wildest sci-fi fantasies and most horrifying nightmares to life.

The Big Freshers Halloween Nightmare. New student? Pryzm is hosting the biggest freshers Halloween event of the year on Thursday 27th October 2022 – and you’re invited. Join a horror movie-esque experience like no other as they go all out for of one of the greatest nights of the year, with chilling freak shows and spooky tunes aplenty. Come dressed in your deathly best.

System Halloween. The famous System Halloween party is back at Mint Warehouse on Saturday 29th October 2022 with another monster line-up, including Zip, Berlin duo The Ghost and French exponent Sweely. The 1,000-capacity space will be filled with the most ghoulish and ghastly in Leeds from Saturday until the early morn – be there or be scared.

Projekt Halloween. This is one of the North’s leading nights out. Projekt Halloween makes its comeback at O2 Academy in two parts on Saturday 29th and Monday 31st October 2022. Expect endless electronic bangers until 4am, with pyrotechnics, confetti canons and giant LED screens putting a ghostly spin on proceedings as they go all out for All Hallows’ Eve.

Electric Halloween Carnival. Leeds First Friday will take over Cuckoo on Saturday 29th October 2022 for a spooktacular carnival. Don your costumes, put on your dancing shoes and join hosts Kandice Fox and Neil Maydew for a night of electrifying, death-dying and outrageous performances. Expect prizes for the best fancy dress and even a pizza buffet to line your belly.

Lip Off! Halloween Special. This is singing into your hairbrush, Halloween style. The Constitutional warmly welcomes all on Saturday 29th October 2022 for the ultimate night of lip sync, where you can mime to your fave artists. Veteran mimer or total beginner? Come and bathe in the lip sync joy that is Lip Off! Out-there costumes and your wickedest selves are strongly encouraged.

Inzombifest. The legendary Leeds Halloween rave is back at Beaver Works for a 12-hour house music, Halloween marathon from 8pm to 8am on Saturday 29th October 2022. All six arenas will be packed with tech, house and DnB spun by over 30 DJs, including Leeds’ own Tom Zanetti. Expect CO2 jets, dancers and 4,000 dressed-up ravers across the huge party venue.

FunkyLove Halloween Special. Love all things funk and house? FunkyLove returns to The Wardrobe on Saturday 29th October 2022 for the funkiest, freakiest night of the year in Leeds. This Halloween special is all about the big show, as DJs Tony Walker, Marc Dennis and Nick Ellerbeck take centre stage with a full venue makeover, performers and Halloween shows through the night.

LUU Living Dead Festival. Leeds University Union will come un-alive for one night only on Sunday 30th October 2022. Expect live scare actors, terrifying circus performers, hauntingly good productions and a whopping six unique arenas, with 3,000 lost souls taking over the union for a heck of a Halloween purge. This is a student-only event so don’t forget your student ID!

Halloween Discoland. End your pre-Halloween weekend in Leeds with a bang at Dollhouse’s Halloween Discoland on Sunday 30th October 2022, for an eve-til-dawn party that promises to out-spook all others. They’ve got FX makeup artists, immersive live scare acts, Halloween effects and fancy dress policy, so expect a spine-chilling evening with added scare factor.

Cirque du Soul. Head to Beaver Works on Monday 31st October 2022 and you’ll find yourself in an abandoned Leeds theatre full of all things nightmarish. Pass the killer clowns, rabid bats and marauding zombies, and you can join in all sorts of gruesome debauchery! With DJs pumping out the best in house and techno, this is a night in the house of horrors you won’t regret.

Traxx Halloween Special. When darkness falls over Leeds on Monday 31st October 2022, Mint Warehouse will transform into the spookiest of fancy dress party venues for the night. They’re opening their doors to hundreds of ravers for a frightful Halloween of techno, DnB, hip-hop and everything in between – all night long. So dig out your best costume and get ready for a heck of a thrill.

Monday Night Halloween Project. Monday Night Halloween Project at The Space Leeds promises tons of Halloween tricks and treats on Monday 31st October 2022. They’re pulling out all the stops and showcasing an unrivalled music policy spread across all rooms, so you can expect a complete spook-fest with loads of Monday Night surprises. Fancy dress is essential.

Popworld Halloween Special. On Monday 31st October 2022, Popworld will be transformed into a gruesomely ghoulish venue, ready to host a terrifyingly awesome Halloween bash. Get dressed up, and by that we mean don your best costume, and prepare for cheap drinks offers, maximum capacity crowds and all the feel-good tunes you know and love.

Quidz In! Carnival of the Dead. Looking for a night out in Leeds that won’t cost the world this Halloween? Quidz In! is the event for you. Slip into your scariest outfit and head to Pryzm on Monday 31st October 2022 for an eerie night of inflatables, crowd surfing and stage games at the Carnival of the Dead: Halloween Special, with the finest local DJ talent.

Halloween films and shows

Hocus Pocus. This Halloween, Kirkstall Abbey will be turned into an incredible outdoor cinema venue by Sneaky Experience who are showing a trio of scary movie classics on the big screen in these eerie historic surrounds. First up, Hocus Pocus will be shown on both Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October 2022. Get ready for a fun-filled, family-friendly night of all manner of witchy fun.

Nightmare on Elm Street. The Sneaky Experience cinema is opening its doors for a second time on Friday 28th October 2022, so you can watch as the horrifying crimes of Freddy Kreuger unfold in everyone’s favourite slasher flick, Nightmare on Elm Street. There’s no better way to get into the Halloween mood than this cult classic movie in one of Leeds’ spookiest attractions.

The Shining: Outdoor Cinema. Sneaky Experience’s Halloween takeover of Kirkstall Abbey continues on Saturday 29th October 2022. They will be showing one of the great horror films of all time as The Shining hits the big screen. Watch as Jack Torrance slow descends into madness driven by the darks secrets of the Overlook Hotel. As always, fancy dress is positively encouraged.

Family Film Double Bill. If you’re looking for a family-friendly Halloween film screening in Leeds, make a beeline for Howard Assembly Room on Sunday 30th October 2022 for a double bill of spooky films. You’ll follow the Toy Story gang on a road trip-gone-bad and meet a surprising group of animals in ‘Room of the Broom’. Plus, you can join in a free Halloween-themed crafts workshop in the foyer.

Candlelight Halloween: Film Scores & Soundtracks. Candlelight concerts will bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience to The Mansion on Monday 31st October 2022. This time, the flickering glow of hundreds of flames will be paired with a soundtrack of eerie, haunting music to get in the mood. It’s a great way to celebrate Halloween in Leeds.

Monster House. If you want to treat the little ones to a spooky trip to the cinema, Hyde Park Picture House have just the film. As part of their Hyde & Seek programme, you can catch Monster House on the big screen at HEART in Headingley. The film, which sees three pals discover their neighbour’s house is haunted, starts at 10.30am with free craft activities from 10am.

Stockled Park Halloween Pumpkin Picking

Stockeld Park. This half term, treat the kids to a bunch of Halloween fun at Stockeld Park from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October 2022. Explore the family-friendly adventure park, haunted farmhouse or the Enchanted Forest and get lost in the Monster Maze. You can even go pumpkin-picking – every child gets to take one home to carve just in time for Halloween.

Swithens Pumpkin Festival. Looking for places to pick your own pumpkins in Leeds this Halloween? The Swithens Pumpkin Festival gets underway on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th October 2022, then continues from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October 2022. Get your wellies on and your scariest, spookiest costumes and join in all the pumpkin festivities.

The Hunslet Club Halloween Party. This ever-popular family-friendly event is back on Friday 28th October 2022 and it’s going to be as spooktacular as ever. There will be a spooky disco, so get ready to boogie, as well as Halloween bingo, raffles, food, stalls and costume competitions – get thinking about your joint family costumes. Entry is free for the whole family!

Halloween experiences

Ghost Hunt at Leeds Old Workhouse. An overnight ghost hunt at Leeds’ most haunted former hospital? Sign us up! On Friday 28th October 2022, you can tip-toe around Thackray Medical Museum looking for the spirits that still reside inside. It once housed the skeleton of the infamous Yorkshire witch, so ghost hunts here are certainly not for the fainthearted. Are you up for it?

Leeds Skates: Halloween Fancy Dress. On Saturday 29th October 2022, Gryphon Sports Centre will be transformed into wheel-worthy party for the Leeds Skates Roll and Dance Halloween Edition. DJ Ignition will play the best in R&B, hip-hop and more for two hours of dancing on wheels. Roller skates can be hired, and since it is Halloween, costumes, wigs and make up are a must.

Corn Exchange: Halloween Special. Join Lost Soul Paranormal to investigate the incredible Leeds Corn Exchange on Saturday 29th October 2022. You can spend the night in the hidden rooms, alcoves and staircases of this beautiful yet creepy building, using the latest ghost hunting technology and spiritual techniques, to hunt out the spirits who linger after death.

Leeds Spooky Brunch Social. On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October 2022, you can join Flight Club for a two hour spooky Halloween bottomless brunch. There will be a devilish cocktail on arrival, a bottle of Prosecco for every guest and you’ll be fuelled from start to finish with endless pizza. Dressing up is encouraged and you can even throw in a game of social darts.

Halloween Bottomless Brunch. Canal Club are putting a spooky twist on their ever-popular bottomless brunch this Halloween. Head down on Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th October 2022 and you can feast on ghoul-inspired dishes and cocktails. Ghastly Ghost Walk at Hazlewood Castle. A paranormal tour with a celebrity medium? Yep! That’s exactly what’s on offer at Hazlewood Castle on Sunday 30th October 2022. This Halloween, Marcus Starr is your guide for the night and the voice for the troubled ghouls that haunt these historical Leeds grounds. Paint The Scream. Fancy getting artsy on the spookiest weekend of the year? On Sunday 30th October 2022, PopUp Painting will take over Brasserie Blanc, so you can paint your own version of one of the most chilling artworks ever made this Halloween in Leeds. You’ll be given supplies and guidance from an artist, with a Halloween-themed soundtrack and a bar full of tipples.
