The great news is that there are loads of places in Leeds where you can have a go at fun lessons taught by expert salsa instructors. Get on your dancing shoes – we’ve rounded up the best classes the city has to offer with everything you need to know about how to make salsa dancing your next hobby.

The Salsa Smiths

If that sensuous salsa beat is calling your name, then The Salsa Smiths at Denison Hall Club is ready and waiting for you. With that iconic music filling the dance floor and an enthusiastic teacher, where else would you rather be? Whether you’re a complete beginner or you know what you’re doing on the dance floor, there’s a class for you here – just turn up at the right time and learn the steps you need to know, followed by a social to celebrate at the end. It’s run by master salsa dancer Om Smith, with a really relaxed, fun vibe that will keep you going back time and time again.

The Salsa Smiths runs classes at Denison Hall Club, Pinfold Lane, Armley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS12 3LL every Tuesday starting at 7.30pm. Classes cost £6 for one or £8 for two.

Havana Salsa Leeds

Let the salsa beat take over your body with classes from Havana Salsa on Tuesday nights in Leeds. They’re an award-winning Cuban dance school, who pride themselves on their structured but enjoyable salsa lessons led by fabulously talented instructors. They leave room for you to learn, make new friends and have a good time all in one go. You’ll be taken from unsure beginner to intermediate to confident dancer one rhythmic step at a time – that’s what they pride themselves on. After the lesson, you can practice your impressive new moves or just relax and get to know your fellow learners.

Havana Salsa runs eight-week class cycles at 3 St Peter’s Building, Peter’s Square, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS9 8AH on Tuesdays from 7.30pm. Classes cost £9 each, £31.99 for four weeks or £61.99 for eight weeks.

The Dance Studio Leeds

For focused, instructive salsa dancing classes, The Dance Studio Leeds has got you covered with their salsa club. Here they teach you how to effectively dance salsa with a partner – we’re talking the essentials, like leading and following, non-verbal communication, body alignment and more. It’s a fun-packed six-week course, taught by two of the city’s best salsa instructors from Leeds Salsa Club, Abi and Rahul Stephen, also known as the Salsa Twins. Complete beginners are welcome, and you don’t need to have a partner to join. Fancy something slower and more romantic? Book into the bachata course instead!

The Salsa Partner Work Course runs at The Dance Studio Leeds, Mill 6, Mabgate Mills, Macauley Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS9 7SW every six weeks on Wednesdays at 7.25pm. The course costs £55.

Salsa Rocks Leeds

If you’re looking for some hip-swaying salsa classes in Leeds, this has to be the one to try. Salsa Rocks have beginners, improvers and intermediate classes, all on the same night – every Wednesday at Kerala Restaurant – so you can get to know your fellow dancers. This is your chance to master your cubanito from your enchufla, all in a super-relaxed, fun environment, under the supportive, helpful eye of the teachers, who are all focused on improving your dancing week-on-week, but not at the expense of having fun. After 10pm, the social starts and you can dance the night away with your new-found skills.

Salsa Rocks Leeds runs classes at Kerala, 2 Eastgate, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS2 7JL every Wednesday from 8pm. Classes cost £6 each or £10 for two on the same night and the social is £3 or free with a class.
