Salsa Rocks Leeds
Want to get to grips with Salsa’s sensuous moves and turns? There are classes for every level of ability at Salsa Rocks Leeds on Wednesday evenings, whether you’re a complete beginner or a total pro. Newcomers should get down to Kerala restaurant at 8pm, where you’ll be introduced to the basics, but if you’re more experienced, try their improver Salsa at 9pm. Want to strut your stuff afterwards? Stick around as the lights go down for an evening of social dancing. Don’t worry, DJ Mark will pump out the Latin beats until midnight.

Pair your dancing shoes with cocktails and tacos at Revolución de Cuba every Tuesday night for their ‘Salsa Social’. With their free quick-fire beginners lessons, it’s the perfect place for Salsa newbies, so get yourself down to Call Lane at 7pm and try it out before the improvers class takes over at 7:30pm. Hang about afterwards if you’re still in the mood to dance though, as their free Latin party runs from 9:30pm all the way until 1am with resident DJ Lubi Jovanovic.

For relaxed salsa classes taught by professionals, The Dance Studio Leeds is the place to go. The friendly instructors from the Tiempo Espana Dance Academy put on Cuban salsa lessons that will take you from basic steps to complex spins in no time. Drop in on a Saturday evening with £6 in hand for their beginners and intermediates class – this is followed by an advanced class for more experienced dancers. They offer a friend bonus too, so bring a partner and they’ll give you a free class!

Head down to Smokestack every Monday for the delights of Street Salsa. The dress code is casual, the music is modern and they cater to all levels of experience – so don’t fret if it’s your first time. If you’re new, get there for 7pm for the beginners class. Improvers follows at 8.30pm before everyone comes together at 9.30pm with their insanely fun open freestyle. Just go with the flow and see how entertaining Salsa can be, especially with the bar nearby if you need to quench your thirst.

Discover your Cuban roots every Wednesday with Salsa Smiths at the Anglers Club. A traditional Latin experience, you’ll soon learn your ‘enganche’ from your ‘compas’ with the best Salsa instructors in Leeds. You don’t need experience, a partner or even a booking for these classes – just come along and join in the fun. If you’re not all danced out, there are extra lessons on Sunday nights too.

With Latin dance classes two nights a week, it’s safe to say that Casa Colombiana is passionate about its musical roots. Come along on Wednesday and Thursday evenings for one of Leeds’ best-kept dance secrets – their intimate Salsa classes. They’re specialists in Crossbody Salsa, popular all round the world, but Cuban and Colombian feature as well. The small group means it’s super easy to get one-on-one instruction from the teacher and it’s a snip at just £6 a session.

Led by Tanya Cusan-Espinosa, a professional performer from Cali-Colombia, Inkwell Arts serves up Salsa with a twist. In these classes, you won’t just learn Salsa, instead you learn how to move your body naturally to music, before building up to the classic steps, turns and rhythms. That way, you can adapt your skill to a whole range of Latin dances outside of Salsa, from Bachata to Kizomba and Tango. To join in, just turn up on a Wednesday night – no partner required!
