Get your fix of debate and discussion ahead of Leeds International Festival of Ideas 2023.
LIFICAST is back for its third season, bringing you a healthy dose of thought-provoking conversation and rousing debate. The four-part series sees host and BBC presenter Lotty Leeming joined by big name guests to discuss a selection of hot topics, including the relevancy of the monarchy, the future of adult entertainment and our obsession with wellness. Here’s what’s in store.
Where next for the Royal Family?
Episode one dives into the oh-so-topical question of the monarchy – do the Windsors have a place in modern society? Royal correspondent and historian Professor Kate Williams debates Republican activist and #NotMyKing supporter Stephen Cook. Will they manage to see eye to eye? One thing’s for sure, in light of recent events, it’s bound to be a gripping discussion.
Is our obsession with wellness making us unwell?
In episode two, Lotty is joined by fat activist Lindsay McGlone and NLP coach Adam Smith, for an open discussion on our obsession with wellness. As a nation we spend billions annually on wellness, from gyms and fitness plans to nutrition and cosmetic procedures. Is this obsessive spending and preening actually a detriment to our health? Tune in for an eye-opening debate.
What is the future of adult entertainment?
Yorkshire’s most successful OnlyFans model Amber O’Donnell and Four Chambers producer Vex Ashley tackle the subject of the adult entertainment industry, musing on what the future looks like. Are subscription services making the industry safer, and what effect are the ever-changing censorship rules having for both producers and performers? Find out in episode three.
Has Brexit destroyed the live music industry?
The series reaches a conclusion with a look at the music industry, questioning whether Brexit is still preventing musicians from touring Europe and introducing audiences to new music and bands. Joining the discussion is Kaiser Chiefs bass player Simon Rix and Ellie Giles, founder of Step Music Management and member of the European Music Managers Alliance.
