From Santa’s grotto to creative workshops and a festive walk around the grounds, The Christmas Experience at Lotherton Hall is a great day out for all the family.
Lotherton Hall always comes through for families, but from Friday 25th November to Wednesday 23rd December 2016, the Georgian mansion will be transformed into a winter wonderland the kids will love. Expect festive walks, secret fairy hideaways, and of course, Santa’s Grotto – it’s not to be missed.
You can follow the 12 Days of Christmas Walk and see the famed Christmas carol come to life – hunting out everything from golden pears and French hens to dancing ladies as you go. And it’s all interactive, so you can expect plenty of entertainment along the way – the kids will love trying to hook the ‘seven swans swimming’.
Once you’ve finished your walk, there’s plenty more to do at The Christmas Experience. You can get dressed up as Edwardians and pose for a family photo in front of a traditional backdrop or pay a visit to The Fairy Dell in the rock garden. Their teeny tiny village comes complete with a cinema, a windmill and a church – can you find them all?
Above all, The Christmas Experience is about spending quality time with your loved ones, and what better way to do it than by crafting a wreath for your door together or decorating a tiny door for a fairy? Their elves will be putting on several creative workshops during The Christmas Experience, with even more happening during the Edwardian Weekend on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December 2016.
You can’t leave The Christmas Experience without stopping by The Elf Village to meet the big man and pick up a pressie. Santa is here to see the good boys and girls of Leeds, but be sure to book a slot in advance because his diary is fast filling up. While you’re there, find out what it’s like to work for the Clauses from the Head Elf, before helping the kids pen postcards to Santa and making something crafty in the workshop.
It’s thirsty work, so when you’re done, grab a slice of cake and a hot chocolate (or glass of mulled wine if you fancy getting into the festive spirit yourself) in the Christmas Courtyard. You can also join carol singing in the Drawing Room, marvel at the kids’ entertainer or discover more about Christmas past by exploring the stately home, decked out in its finest decorations and a mighty 12 foot Christmas tree.
While you’re here, don’t forget to explore the country house, bird gardens and exhibitions. There’s a playground where the kids can burn off some energy if the weather’s nice too, so you’re onto a winning day out in Leeds.
The Christmas Experience is at Lotherton Hall from Friday 25th November 2016 to Wednesday 23rd December 2016. You need an Estate Entry ticket to go and some activities cost extra.
