It’s pumpkins galore at Horsforth Pick Your Own! They planted over 37,000 earlier in the year, and now it’s time for you to harvest them. You can spend a good couple of hours exploring the patch at the heart of this working farm in Leeds, and you’ll need to because there are no less than 10 different varieties to choose from. We’re talking miniature ones, striped ones and even warty ones. Of course, there are plenty of the traditional orange kind too. Tickets cost £2 for adults and £1 for kids, with pumpkin prices ranging from £1.50 to £7.50.

Stockeld Park go the extra mile for Halloween, so it’s a fantastic place to go pumpkin picking with the kids. Their patch stretches as far as the eye can see, filled with thousands of different pumpkins. One is included in each £14 ticket, so the kids can roam the patch, choose their favourite and take it home to carve. But don’t forget to visit the forest first, where you’ll find a band of witches casting wicked spells deep in the trees. There’s also a magical maze full of so many twists and turns you might never escape!

Halloween Pumpkin Patch at Swithens Farm

Swithens Farm has been taken over by ghosts and ghouls, so it’s the perfect place to get into the spooky spirit with a spot of pumpkin picking. You’ll need to pre-book your £10 ticket, which includes access to the farm and one pumpkin, then you can head straight out to the patch to find the biggest and the best. There are prizes for the best fancy dress and a Halloween trail for the kids to enjoy – just keep your eyes peeled for Jules the resident witch who’ll be casting spells as she patrols the farm!

Farmer Copleys Pumpkin Festival

Farmer Copleys is home to one of the biggest and best pumpkin festivals in Yorkshire. With over 100,000 pumpkins spread across 20-acres of fields, you can spend hours exploring to find your perfect pumpkin. They’ve planted 20 different varieties and come in every shape, size and colour imaginable – red, blue or black, warty, stripy or spotty, they have them all and more. Watch out for the wicked witch who’ll be up to some Halloween mischief around the farm too. Tickets start from £2 and pumpkins range from £1.50 to £12.

Bert’s Barrow Pumpkin Picking

Bert’s Barrow is a charming little spot to go pumpkin picking. It’s a family-run farm that’s nestled in the quaint village of Hillam, just 30 minutes outside of Leeds. The patch is free to enter (you just pay for what you pick), but you can also upgrade to a £4 ticket for entry into the carving barn. From scooping tools to colourful paints, they’ve got everything you need to create your perfect jack o’ lantern. Why not visit on a Friday evening for Pumpkins and Pizza? You can walk out to the fields and pick up your pumpkin, before heading back to enjoy a freshly cooked slice and a pint at the bar.

The Pumpkin Festival at Birchfield Farm

A 6-acre field of pumpkins awaits you at Birchfield Farm’s Pumpkin Festival, just pull on your wellies, grab a wheelbarrow and get picking! The annual autumn event is always a hit at this Yorkshire farm, and while it might be a little different this year, there’s still plenty to get stuck into. You can carve your pumpkin into a freaky face in the barn and even feed the flesh to the pigs. There’s also a woodland trail, a spooky maze and a cafe serving hot food, so you can really make a day of it. Tickets are £3 and you pay for pumpkins separately.

They’ve got miniature wheelbarrows so the little ones can whizz around the field and find their favourite pumpkin. Get the kids in their creepiest costumes because there are prizes for those who visit the patch dressed to impress. It’s a working farm so there are lots of animals to see, including Highland calves Bonnie and Dougal, as well as an epic adventure playground. Tickets cost £6.95 and include a pumpkin for the kids to take home.

You can get the pick of the patch at The Balloon Tree York. They take pride in producing high-quality, home-grown veggies and their pumpkins are no different. There are hundreds for you to choose from in all shapes and sizes. You can go for a little one, which are good for cooking, or go large to carve out a monstrous jack o’ lantern. If all the harvesting tires you out, you can re-fuel with light refreshments at the Berry Barn. Tickets cost £2.50, which can be redeemed against the cost of your pumpkin.

Halloween Pumpkin Picking at Thornton Hall Country Park

Thornton Hall Country Park have gone all out for their pumpkin picking event this year and their enchanted patch is full of ripe picks. Little or large, fat or thin, they have them all. But be warned – it’s the season of spookiness, so there’ll be menacing characters lurking around the farm as well as Fred Web, a giant spider. They’ll be putting on spooky shows and magical demonstrations too. Tickets start from £4.95 for adults and £5.95 for kids, depending on the date you visit, and you pay for pumpkins separately.

PYO at Eastfield Farm

Eastfield is usually a soft fruits farm, but every October their fields are full of pumpkins, primed and ready for you to pick. Entry to the South Yorkshire farm is free, so all you need to do is wrap up warm, pull on your wellies and bring along some cutters to harvest your favourite. A top tip from the farmers? The further you walk, the better the pumpkins. Why not take on the challenge of finding the biggest on the patch? You pay per pumpkin, depending on the size, and prices range from £1 to £7.

Bring the whole brood to Piglets Adventure Farm for a pumpkin picking experience the whole family will love. The kids get a pumpkin included with the £12.95 ticket and there are over 10,000 to choose from. Once the little ones have made their pick, you can head to the carving tent to scoop out the flesh and turn it into a seriously spooky jack o’ lantern. But that’s just the half of it as there are loads more activities to get stuck into, from corn cannons to mystery mazes, farmyard visits to beach fun – they have it all!

Spilmans PYO Pumpkins

For a day of pumpkin picking and family-friendly fun, head to Spilmans. This Yorkshire farm has a ginormous patch with over 40,000 ripe beauties ready for you to inspect. Just grab a wheelbarrow, choose your favourite, then carve it in the barn. There’s plenty to keep the little ones entertained too, with tractor rides, mazes and a huge hay bale mountain – clamber to the top for great views over the patch. You’ll need to book your slot with a £10 deposit, which can be redeemed on the activities, and pumpkin prices start at £1.
