With the summer holidays in full swing, there’s never been a better time to visit The Royal Armouries…
There’s no doubt about it – The Royal Armouries is one of the best family days out in Leeds and it’s free to explore. It’s full of weird and wonderful artefacts that tell the story of arms and armour through the ages. You can see everything from a ginormous elephant armour to samurai swords, elaborate sabres and mail shirts worn by the knights of old. But that’s not the only reason to go this summer, because their Wild West is coming to town from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th August 2018 – and we’re giving away tickets.
Round up the kids for a day of cowboys and crossbows!
During the summer holidays, The Royal Armouries will tell the stories of the legends of our past, including Buffalo Bill, the man who inspired the Wild West Show. And if you’re our lucky winner, you’ll bag a family ticket to the event. You can see a crack team of TV and film stunt-riders from Atkinson Action Horses performing dare-devil tricks – expect gunfire, carriage-leaping and stirrup-drags, just like in the Westerns you watched as a kid.
While you’re there, you can join in with all the other activities on offer. They’ll have talks, tours and demonstrations inside the museum, with a big gunfight in the amphitheatre. You even can sit down to story time with Buffalo Bill, a man whose illustrious career included a stint in the army and a stretch as a buffalo hunter before he became the showman we all know today.
It’s hungry work, so we’re throwing in lunch at the Armouries Café Bar, where you can get kid-friendly eats, alongside hearty meals. And afterwards, you’ve got another treat to look forward to – the crossbow challenge. Up on the fifth floor, they have a crossbow range where you can fire off a few bolts, so if you fancy yourself as the next William Tell, this will be right up your street. Finally, finish your trip with a stop at the museum gift shop, where you’ll get an exclusive 10% discount.
