To celebrate the new Thomas Chippendale exhibition at Harewood House, we’re giving you the chance to win a marvellous day out…

There’s no doubt about it, Harewood House makes for a great day out. The 18th-century Palladian mansion is filled with exquisite finds, from Chippendale furniture to Renaissance masterpieces and family portraits by Reynolds, Lawrence and Richmond. There’s even more to see outside – the gardens were landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, so expect stunning vistas, along with a few surprising discoveries, like their Himalayan Garden and the ever-so-wonderful bird garden.

There’s so much to do here that we’ve completely run away with ourselves – because what we’re really here to tell you is that we’re giving you the chance to win a glorious day out, so you can see the new Thomas Chippendale exhibition, explore the grounds and enjoy a spot of afternoon tea.

Born in 1718, just down the road in Otley, Thomas Chippendale went on to become one of the most famous furniture designers of all time – which is why, 300 years after his birth, Harewood House is putting on a special exhibition of his work. Thomas Chippendale: Designer, Maker, Decorator will showcase their personal collection of Chippendale furniture as you’re invited to follow their Tree to Table Trail around the grounds, taking in original furniture and modern art installations along the way.

Enjoy a luxurious afternoon tea for two

Harewood House Afternoon Tea

There are few better places to do afternoon tea than Harewood House. They serve it in the Terrace Cafe, which looks out over their stunning grounds, so you’ll have quite the view. It’s an impressive spread, with mini salmon and cheese bites, homemade quiche and finger sandwiches filled with Moroccan chicken and free range egg. But that’s just the warm-up, because you can also indulge in Pimm’s jelly, Victoria sponge and lemon bites, macaroons and rich chocolate cake, all washed down with Yorkshire tea and a glass of prosecco. How quaint!
