The new £33 million Leeds City College campus will be a high tech, forward-thinking base for the next generation.

There are exciting times ahead for Leeds City College as they prepare to start work on a brand new campus on Quarry Hill. The new site will help revolutionise the college’s Digital, Creative Arts and Health Science courses, and could have a huge impact on the city’s growing reputation as a digital powerhouse by providing the next generation with the skills they need to succeed.

The 11-storey campus is situated to the left of West Yorkshire Playhouse and work is set to begin in July 2017, with an estimated completion date of June 2019. The new complex will have the usual seminar rooms and lecture theatres, but it will also offer a host of world class facilities.

There will be a specialist childcare training centre and a suite of science, computing and digital technology labs with state-of-the-art equipment. And the arts will get a major boost too, because the new campus will have a brand new performance centre, alongside art, dance, film and recording studios, the latter of which will be used by Leeds College of Music.

Jane Pither, Deputy Principal Corporate Services at Leeds City College, told us, “This exciting campus in the heart of Leeds will be a dynamic and contemporary learning environment that meets the needs of the local economy. It will highlight our commitment to providing exceptional learning spaces and enhance and complement this cultural quarter of the city.”

The £33.4 million project has been part funded by Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal, which represents a real commitment to making the city’s educational institutions a priority. And it will have an impact on the wider city, because they’ll be producing quality graduates to help fill the skills gap in our growing digital and health sectors.

Roger Marsh OBE, Chair of the LEP said: “We’re delighted that Quarry Hill – one of the projects in our total £79 million investment in FE infrastructure across the City Region and Leeds City College’s second major new city centre site – has begun to be realised. This transformational and ambitious development will give students from Leeds, Bradford and the wider City Region access to world class, state-of-the-art training facilities, allowing the College to closer align the powerhouse skills of our future workforce with the needs of our City Region businesses.”
