Think you’ve got what it takes to make it in the tech sector? Find out with a night of craft beer, industry talks and escape room antics…
Problem-solving, creativity, teamwork – the skills you need in an escape room aren’t so different to the ones you need in the tech industry. So we’ve brought the two together for a one-off event on Thursday 20th June 2019. This is your chance to dip your toe in the water and find out if a career in tech is really for you. No judgement, no big sells, no recruiters, just an hour in an escape room, a pint of beer and a down to earth talk from three of the region’s leading tech businesses.
Make your escape
First, you’ll take on an escape room, working your way through the clues, puzzles and challenges to find your way out. You could step into a haunted house, submerge yourself in an abandoned vessel or take on the devil himself in a battle for your soul – whichever room you find yourself in, your actions will be analysed and reported back, so you can find out where your strengths lie and how you can use them in the tech industry.
Make your move
After your game, you’ll settle down with a drink to listen to a series of short, insightful talks from industry professionals. You can have a pint of beer, a medium house wine, a spirit and mixer or a soft drink, so there’s something for everyone – and the same is true of their speakers.
First up is Renee Hunt, Director of Group Digital Platforms at Sky, Europe’s biggest direct-to-consumer media company. She’ll explain how the skills you just used in the escape room can translate into a career in tech. Helen Andrzejowska from Huddersfield video game studio Ocean Sparks is on next. She spends her days making games like Tetra: Elemental Awakening, so who better to tell you how to get into the industry? And finally, Mark Roberts from Beer Hawk will talk you through all the weird and wonderful roles you could do in the tech industry. They combine tech and logistics to deliver 1,000s of rare and hard to find beers all over the UK, so it’s not just the usual suspects.
