Graduating may be the end of an era, but if you’re pursuing a career in digital marketing, data analytics, finance or operations, what comes next could be even better.

At its heart, Sky Betting & Gaming is a tech company, but that doesn’t mean they’re only looking for software developers. Their graduate schemes cover everything from digital marketing to data analytics, and they have a whole range of different specialities for you to choose from. So if you want to get your career off to a cracking start, there’s nowhere better to do it.

Although they have the full weight of the Sky brand behind them, they actually went independent in 2015. Just one year later, they officially became a tech unicorn – which, in case you’re wondering, means they’re a start-up valued at over £1 billion.

It’s a testament to their success that they’ve come so far so fast – in fact, they’ve gone from 500 employees to 1,500 in the last 3 years. They’re now one of the top 3 online betting and gaming companies in the UK and they’ve been named as one of the ‘100 Best Places to Work’ by The Sunday Times three times in a row. So where better to start your career?

You can hit the ground running and make a real difference

Clearly, this is a company that looks good on paper, especially on a CV, but there’s more to it than that. Sky Betting & Gaming has a unique culture and one that embraces talent, so no matter where you are in your career, you’ll always have a voice. And because it’s such an agile business, you can drive real change, even from a very early stage.

“There are a lot of opportunities for progression, and we have the kind of culture where you can make a real difference – if you’ve got an idea, you can talk to someone from our leadership team. We’re very receptive to new ideas and I think that’s what makes us different. It’s not stagnant, it’s always moving, always changing,” Yasmin Ahkter, Early Careers Recruitment Manager at Sky Betting and Gaming told us.

So how do you get your foot in the door?

Right now, Sky Betting & Gaming has four graduate schemes open for applications, with everything from data analytics to finance. They’re looking for bright, commercially-minded individuals who know what they want to do and are prepared to work for it.

Good with numbers? Their 3-year Finance programme will give you a well-rounded introduction to the industry with three rotations that will see you doing internal audits, as well as commercial and corporate finance. But that’s not all, because you’ll also be able to study towards a CIMA or ACCA.

Alternatively, you could make your first foray into marketing with their Commercial scheme. It’s an 18-month programme that covers digital marketing, brand, CRM and social. You’ll be embedded in three different teams, so you’ll get a real in-depth understanding of the products they offer and the way the business works – which means you’ll be in the perfect position to decide where you want to take your career in the future.

This year, they’ve introduced a new Data Analytics scheme, which is both technical and strategic. In this 2-year programme, you’ll use data analysis and visualisation to help define strategies at one of the UK’s most exciting tech companies. You need to be a logical thinker and a problem solver, because you’ll be turning raw data into actionable insights.

Finally, there’s the Operations scheme. This is your chance to hunker down and get to know the customers, so you can improve the betting experience. It works a little differently to the others, because after completing the set rotations in the first 8 months, you’ll work with the team to tailor the last 10 months of your programme to your interests and strengths.

It’s fully paid – and it comes with some serious perks

Don’t be deceived – this isn’t an internship, it’s a graduate programme, so you’ll get a competitive salary, 25 days holiday and flexible working hours, just like everyone else in the business. They dish out bonuses twice a year too, so you’ll have that to look forward to, and you’ll even get free SkyQ.

It’s a very social place to work too. Alongside the pool tables, the PS4 and the Xbox, which make lunchtimes a little more interesting, they hold regular events to help you get to know your co-workers, the biggest of which is The Gathering. This Glastonbury-esque festival brings together live music, talks, street food and more. There are definitely perks to working for one of the UK’s fastest growing tech companies.

And that’s only the beginning

Learning and development is a priority at Sky Betting & Gaming – and you’ll be an important part of that. As one of their graduates, you’ll have a chance to feedback on your scheme and help make it better for future generations.

That’s not all. They offer 40 internally-led training courses and partner with external experts to ensure that their team is always moving forward. They even have their own Management Academy to help you move up the career ladder, which may not be what you have in mind now, but it means you’ll have options further down the line.

You don’t need a First to apply and it doesn’t matter what you’ve studied, as long as you’re passionate, enthusiastic and ready to learn, you’ve got what it takes. You’ll need an up-to-date CV – make sure it includes any work experience, placements and volunteering you’ve done, because that’s a definite plus here.

But be warned – the deadline for applications is midnight on 30th March 2018, so if you want to kickstart your career at one of the most exciting tech unicorns in the North, you’ll have to get a wiggle on.
