70+ events on everything digital, all streamed to your home-desk – yes please!
Over the last three weeks, hundreds of thousands of events have been cancelled or rescheduled – but not Leeds Digital Festival. As the biggest tech event in the city, they’ve raised the bar by replacing their usual digital extravaganza with a 70-strong virtual event schedule from 20th April to 1st May 2020. And that’s not all, because they’re also organising a second event in September, when all this is over.
The decision to go virtual
Since it launched in 2016, Leeds Digital Festival has gone from strength to strength. Last year, brought 25,000 people to 240 events. There were 750 speakers in total, which is a massive achievement and a testament to the strength of the tech community in Leeds.
This year, their plans were just as ambitious. 240 events have already been submitted, and while they can’t all be made virtual, the list of events that can and will be taken online is ever-growing. It’s just passed the 70+ mark and we wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few last-minute additions – after all, we’re all still finding our way in this bold new world of ours.
“The decision has been taken to delay the physical events for now. However, we’re a digital festival and we still need to support each other, still need to learn, still need to show off the amazing people, companies and innovation we have in the city and the wider region,” Festival Director Stuart Clarke explained. “ We’re still planning to go ahead with the spring Festival, but will only host online events on the Festival website.”
The events you mustn’t miss
From workshops and masterclasses to meet-ups, socials and pub quizzes, it’s all going virtual. But with so many events to choose from, you’ll be absolutely spoilt for choice, so we’ve picked out the very best to help you narrow down your options. Remember, there are loads more where these came from, so check out the full event calendar.
