More digital businesses, more digital jobs, more opportunities to make your next move…

The tech industry is worth a staggering £6.5 million to the local economy and it’s growing at a rapid pace. Over the last year, we’ve welcomed a string of big-name companies into the city, including Channel 4, and seen a plethora of new start-ups turn their dreams into a reality. But as the digital sector grows, so too does the skills gap. There are more jobs than candidates, which is why Leeds Digital Job Fair 5.0 is making a much-anticipated return to First Direct Arena on Thursday 24th October 2019.

Leeds Digital Job Fair was launched in 2016 to help bridge the skills gap. The first event attracted 1,300 candidates and 33 exhibitors, but it’s grown exponentially since then. This year, they’re expecting 2,000 job seekers and 50 potential employers to meet, greet and recruit, all under one roof.

Sponsored by Leeds City Council, The LEP, Fruition IT and Bruntwood, they’ve already secured an impressive line-up of businesses for 2019, so you can put the feelers out and see what’s out there. Find out how cap hpi use data to manage risk, how Sky Betting & Gaming have scaled their platform to cope with over 16,000 bets per minute and how BJSS use AI to support some of the world’s biggest organisations. They’ll all be there, ready and waiting to answer those burning questions.

But it’s not just big businesses. Leeds has a thriving start-up culture and you can get involved by joining one of the city’s most promising newcomers. You can meet innovative digital agencies like Blue Mantis, Hippo Digital and DMW Group to find out how they’re using new technology to transform business.

These businesses are recruiting now. They’re looking for data scientists, devops, testers and project managers, to name but a few. Graduates are welcome and this is a great way to get your foot in the door, but this year, there are plenty of opportunities for midweights and seniors to make your next move. And if you don’t have any experience, you can explore your options with info on digital apprenticeships and courses.

As well as meeting companies face-to-face, you can hear from leading figures in the industry through a series of talks and one-to-one sessions. Hey! have curated a packed line-up of speakers for Leeds Digital Job Fair 5.0, including three big names – Chris Witham, Digital Delivery Lead at NHS Leadership Academy, James Hall, Director of Parallax, and Sally Bridgewater, Associate Software Developer at Sky.

Chris will talk about his personal experiences of mental health and the importance of taking care of yourself and others in the workplace, while James will cover the process of starting a digital agency from scratch, including the technical and logistical challenges you’ll encounter on the way. And finally, Sally will share her epiphany about ADHD and scrum – could this be a match made in heaven?

The speakers aren’t the only experts in attendance. There are digital professionals at every stall and every corner, so this is the perfect networking opportunity. And if you need to spruce up your CV, ready to make your next move, Fruition IT will be on hand with a one-to-one CV clinic to help put your best foot forward. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re a recent grad or a tech pro, so put the date in your diary and start exploring your options.
