At Askham Bryan, learning isn’t all lectures and revision. From day one, students will get stuck in with hands-on training, whether that’s grooming horses, fixing engines, managing animal care or climbing trees (yes, really). With a huge array of courses spanning from foundation level to degree level, there’s something for everyone.

Work experience is a rewarding element across many of the courses, giving students valuable real-world experience as they learn by doing and start to build connections in the wider industry. Taking part in work placements equips students with the skills and confidence they need to progress into careers or further study.

You’ll find an awe-inspiring selection of facilities on campus, from a working farm to high-tech racing simulators and virtual reality tools. Sports are no afterthought either, with a fully-equipped gym, pitches, climbing wall and and access to incredible outdoor adventure sport opportunities, right on your Yorkshire doorstep. The York campus has its own weekday accommodation, giving students a taste of what it’s like to live away from home. There are catered halls for students aged 16 and 17, alongside more independent options for those over 18. With a Students’ Union, refectory and plenty of social activities on offer, there’s always something going on.

Up to 300 students live on-site, resulting in a friendly and welcoming community. The residential experience was rated ‘Good’ at a recent Ofsted inspection – a glowing testament to the environment that’s been cultivated at the York campus. For many students, it’s their first taste of independence, a place where they’re safe, supported and surrounded by friends.
