The October half term is nearly here, and there are oodles of fun events and activities in Leeds that will help keep the little ones busy during the school holidays. From celebrating the Halloween season with loads of ghoulish goings on to theatre shows, comedy and art workshops, there’s stacks to do. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your half term adventures, stat!

Stockled Park Halloween Pumpkin Picking

Halloween at Stockeld Park. You can have buckets of Halloween fun at Stockeld Park this half term in Leeds. From Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October 2022, you’ll be able to explore the whole adventure park, visit the haunted farmhouse and make your way through the Enchanted Forest. That’s not all – you can go pumpkin-picking with a gourd for every child!

Halloween Magic & Crafts. MathsCity isn’t just about sums, oh no. This half term it’s welcoming the whole gang into their Trinity Leeds home for a week of Halloween-based fun from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October 2022. You can play games, enjoy the candy trail, make your own Halloween origami decorations and check out the laser ring of fire.

Autumn Glory at Harewood. If you want loads of half term activities in Leeds, make a beeline for Harewood House from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October 2022. From Cosy Crafts in the Curiosity Cabin to Autumnal Art Workshop, the Pumpkin Trail to Lantern Workshops with Rusticus, there’s loads of fall-based fun to be had!

Swithens Farm Halloween Pumpkin Picking

Swithens Pumpkin Festival. One pumpkin not enough? Head to Swithens Pumpkin Festival to fill your boots! It runs from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October 2022, so you have plenty of opportunities this half term to find your perfect pumpkin. Scary costumes are more than welcome and they’ll have a host of Halloween-related fun for you to enjoy post-pick.

Actual Reality Arcade. Say goodbye to video games this half term in Leeds and say hello to the Actual Reality Arcade. It’s returning to Kirkgate Market from Monday 24th to Thursday 27th October 2022 with a host of life-sized interactive games, all of which are based on classic arcade machines. It’s completely free to play and allows the little ones to get hands on with fun challenges.

Ugly Duckling. Northern Ballet will bring the famous Hans Christian Andersen fairytale to life this half term in Leeds as Ugly Duckling comes to The Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th October 2022. Expect live ballet, music and theatre as the Ugly Duckling goes on a journey of discovery and self-love.

Anything Could Happen

Anything Could Happen – Spooky Special. The storytelling session where anything and everything happens promises to be one of the best half term activities in Leeds on Wednesday 26th October 2022. Head to Seven Arts where a talented gang of story makers will get help from the kids to create a unique show where there are no rules, only fun and laughs to be had.

Teeth, Toxins and Tarantulas. One of the best half-term activities in Leeds this month will see the little ones investigate the world of teeth, toxins and tarantulas at Leeds Discovery Centre on Wednesday 26th October 2022. This free workshop will explore how nature protects them, complete with a smattering of fun activities, including crafts, spooky tours and artefact displays.

Water Painting Family Workshop. You can introduce the little ones to the world of art at Henry Moore Institute on Thursday 27th October 2022. Inspired by their current exhibition, Lungiswa Gqunta: Sleep in Witness, engagement curator Alison Smith will show kids aged 6 and up three different ways of making images using water after a short tour of the exhibition.

Macbeth. Fancy taking your teens to the theatre this half term? Leeds Playhouse welcomes Leeds Conservatoire’s production of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy on Thursday 27th October 2022 and it’s suitable for ages 12 and up. Directed by Amy Leach and starring Tachia Newall, this is a deep, emotional show that shows the dangers of ruthless ambition.

Spontaneous Potter. This isn’t canonical Harry Potter, this is your chance to create the Harry Potter you always wanted! Spontaneous is an improvised, unofficial parody at Carriageworks on Friday 28th October 2022. It’s based around a fan-fiction title suggestion from the audience, like ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Commerce’, which the actors will then bring to life on the stage.

Hocus Pocus. Sneaky Experience are back and Halloween is their favourite time of year. They’re taking over Kirkstall Abbey once again for an incredible weekend of spooky cinema, including two family-friendly screenings of Disney classic Hocus Pocus on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October 2022. Fancy dress is more than encouraged and there’s loads of fun games to enjoy too.

Twelfth Night. A second classic Shakespeare work at Leeds Playhouse this half term comes in the form of Twelfth Night on Saturday 29th October 2022. Again suitable for ages 12 and up, it’s the perfect chance to see a fresh take on this famous tragedy full of mistaken identity and unrequited love, when Viola is washed ashore on a new land alone, after her brother Sebastian disappears.

You Choose. Based on the book by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt, You Choose is a brand new interactive musical for the whole family. You can check out this unique show at Carriageworks on Saturday 29th October 2022 – the actors use the book as inspiration and through a series of games and challenges, the characters, locations and costumes change every time.

The Discount Comedy Checkout Improvised Family Show. Fancy a few family-friendly laughs this half-term in Leeds? Head to the Carriageworks on Saturday 29th October 2022 for The Discount Comedy Checkout’s hilarious hour-long show. Three performers will bring ideas and stories from the kids in attendance to life, with plenty of chances for the kids to get up on stage too.

Family Film Double Bill. Fancy a double-bill of family Halloween favourites? Head to Howard Assembly Room on Sunday 30th October 2022. It kicks off with the Toy Story gang and their road-trip-turned-bad in ‘Toy Story of Terror!’ That’s followed by Room on the Broom, an Oscar-nominated animation based on the picture book by The Gruffalo creators Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

Hyde & Seek: Monster House. The Hyde Park Picture House present a Halloween edition of their kid-friendly Hyde & Seek screenings on Sunday 30th October 2022. They’re taking over HEART in Headingley to show Monster House on the big screen, complete with a craft workshop. You’ll follow three friends as they discover that their neighbour’s house is haunted.

Mini-Monsters Spoook-tacular Disco Party. The October half term coincides with Halloween so if you want to get into spirits and spooks of the season, get down to Left Bank Leeds on Sunday 30th October 2022 to end the school holidays with a fright. They’re hosting a ghoulish disco with Count Jonny Strangeways on the decks playing all the big Halloween party tunes.
