The Easter holidays are here! Besides gorging on chocolate, here are the best things to do with the kids in Leeds.

Two weeks of glorious family time stretch out before you, but how will you keep those little ones entertained? We’ve got days out galore – from hunting easter eggs in a forest to getting creative at family friendly workshops , there’s loads to do during the Easter holidays in Leeds. You might even be lucky enough to meet the Easter Bunny himself!

Medieval Easter at Royal Armouries

Royal Armouries is one of the best free places to take kids in Leeds and this Easter holiday, it’s themed around the War of the Roses. There’s lots to see and do, including your chance to forensically examine the weapons they used on the medieval battlefield and a horse show re-enacting Richard III’s last moments. You can also catch the International Jousting Tournament here, where knights in shining armour from the UK, Norway and Poland will mount horses and battle it out for for the covetable Sword of Honour.

Wild about Lotherton

Ready to embrace your wild side this Easter holiday in Leeds? Lotherton has got a brand new event trail just for the occasion. Not only will you explore the Edwardian house, the beautiful gardens and the Wildlife World animals, but you and the kids can get creative at the dedicated craft activity stations too. Your little monsters will explore their senses, make incredible dens and help wildlife. They’re even putting on workshops where children can have a go at environmental art, bushcraft and bug hunting!

Easter at Temple Newsam

The Easter Bunny has visited Temple Newsam and hidden decorated eggs all around the house and farm! Have a blast with the kids as you try and find them all. As well as an Easter egg hunt, you can get the kids’ creative juices flowing by getting them involved in the workshops. Little ones can get messy as they create their own Easter egg cup out of clay or their own Easter gift wrap inspired by the house’s wallpaper. Don’t forget to say hi to the springtime babies at Home Farm – there might be lambs, calves and chicks!

Easter at Temple Newsam runs from Saturday 2nd to Saturday 23rd April 2022. Egg hunt is free with the price of admission. Workshops are £5 each.

Easter Adventure at Stockeld Park

You can always rely on Stockeld Park to put on a fantastic set of Easter holiday activities in their Leeds adventure park. All their usual playgrounds, including The Magical Maze and The Buccaneer Boats, will be available to play on, but you might meet the real life Easter Bunny too! Go on a trail through the Enchanted Forest and see if you can spot the pretty rainbow bunnies. Their giant Easter eggs are back, each painted as a different character and hidden in the parkland. Can you spot them all?

The Easter Adventure takes over Stockeld Park from Saturday 2nd to Sunday 24th April 2022. Tickets start from £16.50. Under twos go free.

Extinction Easter Trail

Looking for things to do with the kids in Leeds this Easter? Leeds City Museum has a free trail to take you and your little explorers around all the extinct and endangered animals in their collection. You’ll discover the dodo, see a dinosaur egg and even meet the famous Leeds Tiger. Craft sessions on the same theme are on in the hall, where they’ll be showing the Armley Hippo animation at the same time. Older kids between seven and 12 can take part in the Make your Own Time Capsule workshop.

Easter at Leeds Industrial Museum

Leeds Industrial Museum

Easter at Leeds Industrial Museum is all about cloth making! Wander around the museum, learn all about Leeds’ textile history and admire the big manufacturing machines together. The kids can make their own fabric in the museum’s afternoon workshop. They’ll be wet felting, where they can choose their colours and learn a technique to bind felt together. Fancy a less messy affair? They have a tiny 1920’s cinema – a screen for just 24 people – and over Easter they’ll be showing family favourites every day from 2pm.

Abbey House Bunny Fun

Abbey House Museum has been taken over by bunnies this Easter! They’re getting up to all sorts of mischief in the museum’s famous Victorian streets, from pulling pints in the pub to hopping about in the haberdashers. There’ll be all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours, but can you spot them all? Take a pic at the selfie station – we’re thinking bunny ears and a carrot will do nicely. Kids even get a goodie bag of crafty bits to take home. Don’t forget to pop over to Kirkstall Abbey to help them find their lost sheep too!

Easter Bunny Egg Hunt

Looking for activities in Leeds this Easter holiday? This one is completely free! Across the city, giant Easter eggs have been hidden – and it’s up to you (i.e. the kids) to find them. Grab your trail map from the Easter Bunny’s Egg Garden and puzzle your way through the clues. Once you’ve found them, colour in the corresponding egg on your map. Return triumphant with your brightly-coloured trail map and you’ll be rewarded with a yummy Easter treat – rumour has it that the Easter Bunny is in cahoots with Lindt…

The Easter Bunny Egg Hunt comes to Victoria Leeds and takes place across Leeds City Centre from Friday 8th to Monday 18th April 2022.

Mark Thompson’s Spectacular Science Show

If you’ve got a little scientist on your hands, then Mark Thompson’s Spectacular Science Show has to be on your list of things to do with the kids during the Easter holidays in Leeds. It’s an hour-long show designed to dazzle and delight! Answering questions like what colour is fire, what happens if you apply 20,000 volts to a stack of pie cases and – most importantly – what is assistant Melony going to help with? There’ll be explosions, balloons and fire, perfect for keeping kids and adults entertained!

Mark Thompson’s Spectacular Science Show comes to Carriageworks Theatre on Thursday 14th April 2022. Tickets start from £10.30.

Alice in Wonderland Easter Experience at Kirkstall Abbey

Alice in Wonderland, Sneaky Experience

On Good Friday, Kirkstall Abbey plays host to a spectacular family-friendly Easter holiday activity. Lewis Carroll’s classic tale will unfold before you as you follow your feet around the grounds of the abbey, meeting each of the marvellous characters as you go. It’s only 45 minutes long and it’s been designed to cater for kids’ attention spans – ideal for little ones between two and eight. At the end? Full ticket kids get an easter egg! They’ve got a street food market too, where you can grab a snack to enjoy in the grounds.

Alice in Wonderland comes to Kirkstall Abbey on Friday 15th April 2022. Tickets are £12.50 for an adult, £15.50 for a child over two. Under twos go free.

Easter at This Green Moon

This Green Moon, Swilling Organic Farm

This Green Moon has two Easter activities for the kids to get involved in – a play and a trail. You’ll sit under the tipi canvas in the middle of the ancient woodland as you watch The Sorcerer’s Apprentice play out in front of you. A fantastical tale full of magic, music and laughter, it’s wonderful for kids and adults alike. Trails of the Unexpected sees you exploring the forest, discovering ghastly deeds and figuring out who might be responsible. In need of a pitstop? Street food and a bar are available at both events!

Easter Basket Making at Thwaite Watermill

There’s lots to see and do at Thwaite Watermill during the Leeds Easter Holidays. You can walk around the picturesque grounds, discover the magnificent water wheel in action and step back in time in the house to find out how the workers lived. They’re running self-led craft activities where kids get to make their own Easter basket to pop their eggs into. Once completed, kids will get a small goodie bag too! Nature packs are still available – grab one and hit the canal trail to see what bugs you can spot along the way.

Alice in Wonderland at Leeds Kirkgate Market

Yet more Alice in Wonderland? Oh yes! You can see a rip-roaring interactive musical retelling of the classic tale in the historic setting of Leeds Kirkgate Market. Alice has tumbled down the rabbit hole and she needs your help navigating this weird and wonderful new world. She encounters the likes of the grinning Cheshire Cat, the oh-so-late White Rabbit and the mean old Queen of Hearts. Dress up (there’s a gift in it for you), bring a picnic and join in with the unforgettable Mad Hatter’s tea party!
