Veggies, you truly are spoilt for choice. When it comes to meat-free eats, the city’s eateries pass with flying colours and these five dishes stand out from the rest. A raved-about roast with giant puds, a towering burger stack with faux-meat patties and a boozy cheese toastie with beer-soaked onions are just waiting to be scoffed. There’s no time like the present, so go forth and devour.

If you’re in the mood for a massive Sunday feed, the Veggie Roast at The Brunswick is a must. Alongside a herby nut roast, your plate will be piled high with golden roasties, olive oil glazed carrots and green beans, but it’s the giant Yorkshire pud that steals all the thunder – they make them light and fluffy yet perfectly crisp. You can douse the whole lot in meat-free gravy and cleanse your palate with a miniature Bloody Mary.

A quirky and veggie-friendly take on fish and chips, the Sea Shepherd burger at Knave’s Kitchen deserves your undivided attention. Instead of fish, you’ll get a beer-battered tofu fillet that almost tastes like the actual thing, so you can still enjoy a soft inside and a crispy outer shell. They drizzle it with mushy pea infused mayo and garnish it with crispy baby gem lettuce, before stuffing the whole lot into a salt and vinegar bun.

Ever had a boozy toastie? If the answer is no, head to LS6 Cafe to sample their delightful Drunken Cheese version. Sandwiched between two thick slices of bread is a pit of gooey, cheesy and beery goodness. It’s a culinary marriage of melted mature cheddar and beer-sautéed onions – you’ll even get a pot of home-made salsa for dipping on the side for good measure.

The Chilli Paneer Wrap at Manjit’s Kitchen is both bursting with flavour and bulging at the seams. They marinate chunks of paneer in a medley of spices, before combining them with a colourful salad. Shredded carrot, red onion, coriander, tamarind and pickles are all mixed together, then finished off with cooling raita sauce. All this is squeezed into a single thinly rolled naan, ready to be demolished.
