Yorkshire is known for its appreciation of a good pie, but Dave’s is taking pastry-wrapped perfection up a notch. This tiny Burley sanctuary has mastered the humble pork pie and given it a new lease of life. Amongst several flavour combos, the handmade chorizo growler stands out a mile, with fresh pork encased in a spicy, smoky chorizo hug and enveloped with oh-so-buttery pastry. Served with peas, sauces and a pint of cask ale, it’s Yorkshire heaven.

Lamb crumpet Benedict at FINT

Fint, Lamb crumpet benedict

FINT brings together local produce with a Scandinavian sensibility to create Nordic dishes with a real Yorkshire flavour. The perfect example is a crumpet dish like no other. This savoury scorcher comes adorned with slow-braised lamb shank, shredded to juicy perfection, but that’s just the start. A perfectly plump poached egg is delicately placed atop, pleading to be pierced, before it’s drizzled with a lemon dill hollandaise and propped up with pickled apricots.

FINT, 73 Great George Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3BR.

You might only have them on your Sunday lunch but Wapentake serves its Yorkshire puddings for breakfast, dinner and tea. It’s the former we’re dealing with here, and this unique Leeds plate is the dream day starter. It starts, of course, with a pair of perfectly puffy puds, and then it gets taken up a notch. A runny baked egg sits in their wells with fried tomatoes on either side, before it’s all drizzled with crispy bacon bits, fresh herbs and Henderson’s relish.

Cuckoo lives life on the edge and they certainly are with this opinion-splitting pizza. The Love or Hate swaps out the classic tomato for a Marmite base – which side of the yeast extract spread fence will you sit? It’s adorned with sun-dried tomatoes and cheese for a unique flavour combination you can only find here in Leeds. Whether or not that’s a good thing is up to you, but this type of creativity is always worth a try. Oh, and pizzas are free with any drink before 9pm.

Cuckoo, 37 Call Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 7BT.

The Leeds x Northern Monk Burger at Honest Burger

Honest Burger x Northern Monk Leeds Burger

Honest Burger are setting down roots in Leeds and they’ve already made their mark with a one-off burger you can only get at their Northern Monk Refectory residency, made using their landlord’s finest brews. Their Honest beef is topped with bacon, tangy curry sauce, a handful of shoestring fries, but then the real magic begins – their Heathen IPA beer cheese is melted on top and their Faith pale ale and white wine vinegar pickled onions give it the perfect balance.

Honest Burger at Northern Monk Refectory, Marshalls Mill, The Old Flax Store, Marshall Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS11 9YJ.
