We all love a Yorkshire pud and The Cardigan Arms pulls out all the stops with this one – it takes up 50% of the plate and is joined by heaps of melt-in-your-mouth beef, topped with lashings of gravy. They pile their plates high here, so you’ll get all the trimmings – think crispy roasties, carrots, parsnips and savoy cabbage.

You can sample three different kinds of curry with the thali at Manjit’s Kitchen, and it comes with cumin-spiced rice, fresh salad and a warm roti. Their curries are constantly changing – they range from the classic temple dahl to the cauliflower-based Keralan curry, but they all have one thing in common, they’re darned tasty. Throw in pickles and a dollop of cooling chutney for an eclectic feed that’s surprisingly filling.

Why not try something totally new (and utterly delicious) this month? Bánh xèo is a little known delicacy that hails from Vietnam. This savoury pancake is made with rice batter flavoured with turmeric – at Viet Guy, they stuff it with juicy prawns, soft stir fried onions and beansprouts, then serve it with fresh salad and the staple Vietnamese seasoning, fish sauce.

This is one for the carnivores among you. The legendary Phoenix Fries at Almost Famous are topped with crispy bacon chunks, smothered in shoestring onions, then drizzled with their famous bacon bacon mayo. And that’s just for starters because they also sprinkle Frazzle dust over the top and throw on a sweet JD maple glaze.
