El Gato Negro

From the city’s first ever darts bar to a trio of new cafes and restaurants, find out what’s coming soon to Leeds…

They just don’t stop coming, do they? Last week, we had three new openings and the week before, there were three more. Now we’ve got another five to add to the list. The old Shooters is going to be repurposed and you’ll love what they’re going to do with the place. Plus, a city centre staple is opening a new takeout restaurant, a Manchester favourite is replacing Jamie’s Italian and we’re getting two new Asian eateries. But what can you expect from these new arrivals? Take a look.

Flight Club

This is darts, but not as you know it. Flight Club is taking over the old Shooters with an unusual darts bar concept that’s made waves on both sides of the Atlantic. They’ve taken the humble dart board and turned it into an experience everyone can enjoy with fast-paced multiplayer games, ground-breaking dart technology and an instant scoring system. But that’s not all – it’s also a cool-as-heck bar with craft beer, boozy slushies and creative cocktails, which you can pair with a menu of burgers and sharing plates.

Flight Club is opening at 123 The Headrow in 2019.

If you love Chinese food, you’ll be as excited about Oodles as we are. It started back in 2010 in Leicester and has since expanded across the Midlands and the North. It’s a laid-back, casual dining restaurant with an open kitchen where you can see the chefs cook loaded boxes of Chinese food to eat in or takeaway. First, you choose the size, then you choose the bases – vegetable noodles, Singapore rice or spicy chips? To finish, add your main – from Chinese Lamb Curry to Kung Po Chicken and Crispy Prawns, they’ve got all the classics.

Oodles is opening on Woodhouse Lane in Summer 2019.

El Gato Negro

El Gato Negro
Jamie’s Italian will soon be replaced by El Gato Negro. It’s an acclaimed Spanish tapas restaurant from top Yorkshire chef Simon Shaw. He first opened in Ripponden in 2005 before relocating to Manchester where he has since won legions of fans thanks to his creative menus. He brings traditional Spanish flavours together with modern cooking techniques to create a style all of his own. Expect chargrilled beef fillet skewers with mojo rojo and chargrilled sweet potato with mango, chilli and yoghurt dressing.

El Gato Negro will open at 35 Park Row in winter 2019.

Call Lane’s If Coffee Bar is one of the coolest cafes in Leeds and they’re about to open a new sister site in the city centre. They’ve taken over a small unit on Vicar Lane to create a new takeout-only venue where you can get their wares on-the-go. They’ll serve the fresh sandwiches, hearty soups and speciality coffees you’ve come to love over the past few years, as well a menu of grilled cheese sarnies. It’s card only, so get your plastic at the ready.

If Coffee Bar will open on Vicar Lane in 2019.

Lala’s Restaurant

Curry, Indian

There’s a new Indian restaurant coming to Leeds this summer. Lala’s is one of the most popular curry houses in Huddersfield, but you won’t have to go that far to try it because they’re about to open a smart, stylish restaurant in Pudsey with a delicious menu to boot. You can expect all the classics, from the Korma to the Bhuna, alongside their own creations like the Karahi magaz, which brings together lamb brain, onions, peppers, tomatoes and green chillies.

Lala’s Restaurant will open at 501 Bradford Road, Pudsey in 2019.
