From melty vegan cheese to pickled red cabbage and sweet chilli sauce, the possibilities are endless. In this list of Leeds’ best plant-based burgers that you absolutely have to try, we’re exploring all the options – and you should too!

The Supreme at Fat Annie’s

If you want a good old-fashioned, no-nonsense vegan burger, then The Supreme at Fat Annie’s is the one meant for stuffing your face. Unwrap your tin foil and take a bite, because there’s nothing like the combination of the soft bun, beef-style patty and cheese hitting your taste buds. It’s got your usual accoutrements of a pickle, onion and iceberg lettuce too, but this burger goes one better, with a generous helping of Fat Annie’s secret sauce. On the side? It has to be crispy house fries and a creamy vanilla milkshake!

What’s Garlic in French from Döner Summer

Döner Summer are well known for their vegan chick’n, so it was only a matter of time before they popped it in a bun and called it a burger. And boy, have they done just that. It’s their classic buttermylk patty drizzled with garlic butter, piled on a vegan brioche bun with crunchy lettuce and dill pickles, before a final flourish of crispy fried garlic onions and one hell of a helping of burnt garlic mayo. This is not first date material, but if you love garlic, then it just has to be this bad boy.

Leafeater Burger from Patty Smith’s

Patty Smith’s is known for doing a mean vegan burger, and the Leafeater is no exception. The patty is made with beans, but don’t worry, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill meat-free burger, oh no. This Leeds classic combines cannellini beans, spiced beetroot and fennel, packing it with flavour. And it doesn’t stop there. They’ve popped the patty on a toasted brioche bun, topping it off with tomato jam and garlic mayo. There’s lettuce and tomato too, as well as pickled red cabbage and beetroot. It’s a riot of colour that you can’t miss!

Bhaji Butty at Bundobust

Want an Indian twist on your traditional burger? Then Bundobust is your go-to. They put aside the usual patty and, instead, the humble onion bhaji is the star of the show. It’s crispy and delicious on its own, but Bundobust have popped it on a vegan brioche bun, topped it with crunchy kachumber sambharo and layered on desi ketchup with their own green chutney. What’s more, £1 from the sale of every Bhaji Butty goes to a local charity, making it not only good for the earth but good for the community too!
