So what’s in store with this sumptuous spread? Let’s begin with the classics – a marzipan-topped mince pie! Chez Mal know not to mess with tradition, which is why they’ve kept this little beauty packed with fruit and humming with cinnamon. Is it sweet? Is it savoury? It’s a little bit of both and bloomin’ delicious – all the more so for being served warm. Think of it like a little hug for your stomach on a cold winter’s day.

Another Christmas must-have is the chicken, and you’ll get this succulent meat wrapped up with zingy cranberry and lashings of creamy tarragon mayo. Speaking of lashings, you may need a napkin for the Chez Mal slider. A tiddly take on a restaurant favourite, this mini beef burger is loaded with tomato and gherkin, topped with Chez Mal’s special house relish and sandwiched between an oh-so-sweet brioche bun. Aiming for a herbivorous holiday season? The beetroot burger is so good you might mistake it for the real thing.

It’s not just classics though. Chez Mal love to experiment with flavours and their Asian salmon is a total zinger. They’ve taken a finger-licking fresh fillet of salmon and marinated it in soy sauce, lemongrass, ginger, chilli and coriander for a whopping 20 hours. The result? A mighty tasty titbit that’s served on rye bread with wasabi mayo, pickled cucumber and sliced through with lime. It’s all sorts of Scandi-Asian delicious.

Onto the desserts. No Christmas is complete without a shed-load of chocolate and the homemade chocolate roulade will set your sweet tooth singing. Cast your eyes upon this gluten-free chocolate sponge, slathered in chocolate mousse, dotted with cherries, then rolled up into one seriously delicious dessert package. The final step? A generous helping of creamy chocolate ganache over the top. My oh my.

Another creative twist is in store with Chez Mal’s homemade tiramisu. Instead of bog-standard sponge fingers at the bottom of this Italian favourite, you’ll find something a little more indulgent – panettone. Zesty, fruity bread? Gooooood. Soaked in espresso and amaretto? Very goooooood. Layered with chocolate mousse and Chantilly cream? So gooooooood! It’s super duper rich and you’d be forgiven for wanting to dive in headfirst. Luckily, this bad boy is served in its own portion-controlled shot glass.

Now, onto the serious business of scones. Afternoon tea just isn’t the same without these baked beauties, and Chez Mal are famous for theirs. More American in style, they’re buttery-as-can-be, light as a feather, and especially for Christmas, laced with a warming pinch of cinnamon. Take your pick between plain or fruit and then pile on the obligatory strawberry jam and clotted cream. Or clotted cream then strawberry jam. Let’s not fight, it’s Christmas.

Even the drinks are pretty darned decadent. Whichever order you choose to guzzle these goodies, there’s a pretty-in-pink winter berry shake to wash it all down with. Blueberries, raspberries, oranges, strawberries – all stewed to syrupy-perfection, blended with vanilla ice cream and served up in a mini milk bottle. Who says smoothies are for summer?

And don’t worry, there’s plenty of tea too. Whether you’re dedicated to Darjeeling, committed to chamomile or simply fancy a breakfast tea brew, Chez Mal have enough choice to keep you well stewed for hours. Plus, every Festive Afternoon Tea comes with a glass of prosecco to help you on your way to a very merry Christmas. You can even upgrade for a measly £2.55 and toast the festive season with a glass of Champagne or a classic cocktail instead. It’s what Father Christmas would want. Cheers!

Chez Mal’s Festive Afternoon Tea is available from Wednesday 20th November to Monday 30th December 2019. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available. Tickets are £24.95, or upgrade to include a glass of Champagne or classic cocktail for £27.50.
