Beef, steak

From Malaysian street food to veggie fish and chips, find out what’s coming soon to Leeds…

Two weeks ago, we told you about six new openings coming soon to Leeds, but now we’ve got another three to add to the list. There’s a new Malaysian street food cafe, a modern British restaurant and the North’s first ever vegetarian fish and chip shop. Each one will add something new and exciting to the city’s food and drink scene, but what can you expect from the new additions? We’ve got the details.

JJ’s Vish and Chips

JJ's Vish and Chips

The North’s first ever veggie fish and chip shop is opening on Kirkstall Road this month. Jess Jones is the genius behind JJ’s Vish and Chips, which has taken over The Great Yorkshireman chippy. She’ll swap your standard cod and haddock for banana plant blossoms. Needless to say, it’s not the same as the real thing, but the texture is very similar and Jess brings it to life with a special marinade and her own special recipe batter. They will also sell vegan battered sausage, calamari and spam fritters, alongside cheesy chips and battered halloumi.

JJ’s Vish and Chips opens on Kirkstall Road in June 2019.

The Whitehall

Steak, beef

The Whitehall is the new restaurant coming to West Point. This refined restaurant will take the place of Rosso’s Italian and serve a menu of modern British food. When they open later this month, you’ll be able to tuck into smoked confit chicken terrine or langoustine ravioli to start, followed by torched hake with summer vegetables, giant cous cous and brown butter shrimp sauce. Served in a venue that’s bright, airy and oh-so-sophisticated, this one’s worth checking out.

The Whitehall opens at West Point on Monday 17th June 2019.

Dapur Malaysia

Dapur Malaysia

Following on from a stint in Trinity Kitchen, Dapur Malaysia will open their first permanent restaurant in Chapel Allerton this summer. It’s run by Valerie Kolat and she’s created a tantalising menu of classic street food made using family recipes passed down through the generations. She’s opening a cafe-style restaurant where you can tuck into small plates like curry puffs and spiced fish cakes, alongside classic Malaysian mains like tamarind pork curry, hainan chicken rice and nasi goreng.

Dapur Malaysia will open in Leeds in Summer 2019.
