The gastronomic geniuses at FireLake have turned the humble Yorkshire into a 3-course dinner, complete with inventive starters, scrumptious mains and mind-blowing desserts, and it’s yours for just £23. But this is a limited edition menu and it won’t be around for long, so you’ll have to get a wiggle on if you want to try it out.
This is everything you never knew you could do with a Yorkshire pudding
Three courses, three choices, nine wonderfully unusual ways to serve a Yorkshire pudding – yes, you’ll have to come back so you can try them all! To start, you can try their mini Yorkshire puddings, but this is not your usual serving. They’re coated in a crispy sage and onion crust served with homemade veal gravy and sticky onions caramelised with golden syrup.
Want something a little more adventurous? You can get a Yorkshire pudding wrap filled with chicken, garlic, spinach and their scrumdiddlyumptious Applewood smoked cheese sauce – or why not try their veggie puds? They add goat’s cheese and pesto before they put the Yorkshires in the oven, so it all melts and rises together making a delicious mess.
The mains promise a traditional feast, so expect all your favourite dishes, but with a FireLake twist. There’s a proper toad in the hole with thyme mash and gravy alongside a big ole Yorkshire pud filled with roasted Mediterranean veg, rosemary and garlic, but the real highlight is the sarnie. They sandwich thick slices of rare Waterford Farm rib between two Yorkshire puddings and make you your own personal pot of onion gravy – get in ma belly!
And then you’re onto the desserts, and this is where the magic happens, because despite the name, you’d never actually expect to have a Yorkshire for pudding. They do a twist on a crepe Suzette, made with Cointreau, orange syrup and a big dollop of vanilla ice cream that melts inside its warm outer shell. There’s a blackberry and apple Yorkshire pudding too. They add the fruit before it goes into the oven, so it’s soft and sweet when it comes out, then sprinkle on icing sugar and drizzle on blackberry gel.
As always, we’ve saved the best for last – Yorkshire pudding profiteroles! They’re filled with sweet vanilla cream, smothered in sticky chocolate sauce and topped with icing sugar to make the perfect dessert.
