We got the lowdown on the Leeds Tequila Festival – and it’s set to bring shots, cocktails and street food to Canal Mills this September.
If you’re a fan of tequila and have Saturday 30th September 2017 free, you’re going to want in on this, because the very first ever Leeds Tequila Festival is coming to Canal Mills. It’s set to be one hell of a party, bringing together the biggest tequila brands in the world, all under one roof.
They’re going to make the Canal Mills feel like Mexico City, and your journey starts as soon as you arrive. Once through the door, you’ll be given a complimentary tequila shot to get you started, as well as a Tequila Bible, which will tell you all about the 30 different tequilas you can try at the main bar.
The different brands will be revealed closer to the time, but according to our sources, you can expect big names, alongside a few surprises, some of which you may not have come across before. The aim here is to get you to try different types of tequila, whether you’re familiar with it or not, celebrating the agave craft in all its forms. It’s not just about slamming back shots – there will also be cocktail bars, whipping up tequila into a range of exotic concoctions.
Leeds Tequila Festival comes from the folk at Mega Events, who have earned a reputation off the back of events like Festival of the Dead, The Big Freshers Icebreaker and The Festival of Light. It’s one of 25 different Tequila Festivals they’re putting on across the UK, with London, Manchester and Birmingham taking place in the weeks before the Canal Mills event.
Alex Mason, one of the founders of Leeds Tequila Festival, told us how the event came about and why they’ve chosen Leeds to be one of their host cities, “As a company, we do around 200,000 ticket sales a year with all sorts of events from gin festivals to Festival Of The Dead to The Tequila Festival and we just knew that tequila is something that people get excited about, so marrying this popular drink with Mexican style party seemed like a winner! We have done events in Leeds in the past, it was the third city to go on sale and we love how friendly everyone there is.”
Of course, the tequila takes up most of the attention, but that’s not all the festival has to offer. There will be loads of live entertainment, taking you through from 1pm through to 11pm, with a live Mariachi band on intermittently alongside DJ sets pumping out the best in South American and Latino tunes all day long.
Leeds Tequila Festival has also got your stomach lining covered – they’ve gone all out to bring together some of the best Mexican street food vendors they can find, so you’ll be tucking into tacos, nachos and burritos while you swig down a margarita or two. And if you fancy marrying your tequila with a food challenge, they’re going to push you to the limit with a chili tasting competition.
They’re also promising piñatas, dancers and plenty more surprises along the way, so don’t miss out on your chance to have a tequila-drenched, Mexican-themed day out this September.
Leeds Tequila Festival takes place at Canal Mills on Saturday 30th September 2017. Tickets are available now.
