Lazy Lounge is one of the best venues for gin tastings in Leeds. They take it very seriously – so much so, you get a certificate after you’ve done it. For £25 a head, you get a 2 hour session on Monday evenings or Saturday afternoons during which you’ll learn all about the history of gin. You’ll get to try a selection of 10 gins, from Bols to Bathtub, Jensens and Williams Chase, as well as oodles of cake that they provide to soak up the booze.

The Gin Vault at 53 Degrees North
53 Degrees North has a secret – an underground gin bar where they also host bespoke gin tastings for small groups. You can hire out part of the bar and an expert will introduce you to the joys of mother’s ruin. Start with a classic G&T before moving onto try three of their finest gins – with the likes of Monkey 47, Tanqueray and Jinzu behind the bar, you’re in for some of the best in the world, and all for £25 per person.

The Gin Garden at The New Ellington
The Gin Garden’s tastings are up there with the best of ‘em. They cost £35 per person and you’ll kick things off with a gin and tonic before the class even starts. Their experts will talk you through the history of gin, telling you about its uses (and several mis-uses) before you get down to the nitty gritty. You’ll try out four different gins, one fruit, one citrus, one spiced and one genever style, as well as learning how to garnish your favourite G&T and pair it with your favourite tonic.

The Botanist go all out when it comes to gin, with a huge selection behind the bar including the UK’s finest labels. They also do fantastic little gin tastings at their Leeds bar. It’s £25 a head for 6 to 12 people, and you get 90 minutes of gin-themed brilliance. Their experts take you through the origins and history of the spirit before guiding you through their specially selected gins, helping you to identify the unique flavours and botanicals in each one.

Shears Yard offers gin tastings that are a little bit different from the norm. They’re actually dinners, so alongside a selection of gins from a hand-picked label, whether it’s Sipsmith, Pinkster or Slingsby, they’ll put together a 5-course menu designed to match each tipple. The events are held every few months, and usually cost between £50 and £60, so it’s worth keeping an eye on what’s coming up.

With more than 100 labels from around the world, Pintura loves gin and you can make the most of their expertise on one of their tastings. They host them on the last Tuesday of every month, or if you want to organise your own for a group of friends, you can book a specific date – either way, they cost £35 per person. They’ll take you through the history of gin, from its origins through to the middle ages, the gin craze of the 18th century and the modern day. You get a G&T on arrival, a selection of gin cocktails to try and a meat and cheese board to soak it all up.

The Maven is one of the most popular hidden speakeasies in Leeds and they’ll put on a gin-themed masterclass just for you. They have more than 50 gins behind the bar, and you’ll get to try one on arrival, before heading into their Hendrick’s Room where the fun really starts.
