Sundays just got better because Gaucho is going bottomless – and we’re not just talking about the drinks!
What would you say if we told you Gaucho is doing bottomless steak? Wait, it gets better because it comes with unlimited wine. That’s right, you can feast on Argentinean steak and wine until you’re fit to bursting – all for just £60 per person. This is the ultimate alternative to your usual Sunday roast and the perfect excuse to get together with friends and family over a meal.
It sounds too good to be true, but it’s not. This is the same top quality steak you’d get every other day of the week. It comes from grass-fed Black Angus cattle reared on handpicked Argentinean farms. The result is an incredibly tender piece of beef cooked on a bespoke v-bar grill to bring out the lovely rich flavours.
With at least three cuts, served two different ways, this is a masterclass in steak, something that’s brought to life by their servers. They’ll talk you through the different cuts and styles, so you know the subtle differences between them, and by the time you leave, you’ll be an expert too – a very full, very happy, very satisfied one.
You’ll start with three 100-gram servings of your choice, to give you a chance to taste and compare the difference between them, then it’s up to you what comes next. Reorder your favourites, try everything again – you decide. Most people get through about a kilo of steak, yes, a kilo! But you don’t have to wolf it down, you can take your time and enjoy every bite because they take a very relaxed approach to timings – they want you to enjoy it, not watch the clock.
So, what’s on the menu? Well, it changes every week, but it always centres around three cuts – cuadril (rump), chorizo (sirloin) and ancho (ribeye). They cook them whole and split them into 100-gram slices, so you get all the flavour in small, manageable portions. Cuadril is the leanest cut, it’s only got 2% fat, so it’s the meatiest choice on the menu. Chorizo has a belt of fat that melts into the steak, so it’s incredibly tender and tasty, but it’s the ancho that takes the title of the most flavoursome butcher’s cut.
They’re served on a sharing board, so you can try a couple at a time, and come with their classic chimichurri sauce to add on at will. You’ll also be treated to their delectable chips, which have a light fluffy texture and a crispy shell. You can also add sides, sauces and even desserts (there’s always space for pudding), but at an extra cost.
As for the wine, they’re serving a handpicked list of world wines that, like the steak, will change every week. You can choose from white, rosé and red – and they’re kicking things off with a killer selection. The white comes from the highest vineyard in the world, up in Salta, Argentina. It’s dry, medium bodied and deliciously floral. The red and the rosé both come from Viña Patricia, where they use 100-year-old vines to create an unforgettable Malbec and a fresh rosé with strawberry, raspberry and peach elements. You can drink as much as you want, but savour every sip, because this is the good stuff.
All this can be enjoyed in their swish basement venue, alongside a soundtrack of chilled out house music, played loud enough to create a bit of a party atmosphere, but quiet enough to hear every word of the conversation. Told you – this is what dreams are made of.
