The first rule of Bite Club is – you absolutely do talk about Bite Club.
Spread the word folks, because Terry Edwards and George Craig from Feeding Friends are bringing the city’s best chefs together for a series of intimate cook-offs that will put you in the judge’s seat – and that means tucking into a creative 6-course menu at Lambert’s Yard.
Over the course of seven days, you’ll have the chance to try the wares of eight local chefs. Each event will pit a chef against another, and at the end, you’ll decide who goes through to the next round. Like a boxing match, Bite Club be split into rounds – for the first round, you’ll get a starter from each chef, for the second a main and for the third a dessert. You’ll vote on each round, and the chef who wins the most rounds will go through to the semi finals.
“We were inspired by a mash up of the classic movie Fight Club, which we both absolutely love and a mixture of all the straight laced TV cooking shows that are dominated by chefs from Michelin Starred restaurants in crisp chef whites,” George told us. “We want to get a bit more underground, a lot like the movie. It’s going to be a laugh, but one with a bit of bite to it… chefs are VERY competitive, so they’ll all want to be cooking at their best to impress the diners – and it’s the diners who choose the winner at the end of the day!”
They’ve already lined up six acclaimed local chefs, with two more yet to be confirmed. Brett Barnes from Thornback will take on Josh Nesbitt from Workshop in the first event on Sunday 26th February 2017. Book onto this one and you’ll tuck into quail, chicken skin & potato terrine with fermented apple purée, alongside a simple steak and mushroom.
Next up are John Farrar from Mr Nobody and Tommy Hunter from the Reliance. They’ll be cooking up a storm Monday 27th February 2017 with pork spare rib dumpling and pig trotter tea vying against beetroot fritters, goats cheese mousse, candied walnuts and watercress. And the next night, Tobias Quinn from The Cross Keys will take on Dan Triplethorn from Laynes Espresso, bringing us delicious courses like a de-constructed rhubarb crumble and a baked banana sandwich with white chocolate and popcorn ice cream.
“These chefs all have a different style and background, for instance Brett Barnes has trained in one of the most amazing Scandinavian restaurants in the world, while Dan Triplehorn has a solid British background and is Yorkshire cooking through and through. It’s going to be eclectic, interesting and thought-provoking,” George gushed.
This is going to be one of the foodie events of the year, and with 7 nights to choose from, each with a different duo of chefs, you really can pick your battles. Bite Club will take place at Lambert’s Yard every night between Sunday 27th February 2017 and Saturday 4th March 2017. Tickets are £35 a head, with a small booking fee.
