More food in your tummy and more pennies in your purse – Eat Leeds Restaurant Week returns from Monday 12th to Sunday 25th August 2019.
For the hungry, the adventurous and the downright greedy, Eat Leeds Restaurant Week is one summer event you won’t want to miss. Brought to you by Leeds BID, this fortnight of feasting will see over 50 of Leeds’ best restaurants whip up special two and three-course menus for just £10 or £15. But with everything from fine dining feasts to pizza perfection, you may need a little help choosing where to go first, so we’re here to give you a head start with our top 10 picks.
2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15 at Knave’s Kitchen
Vegans needn’t miss out on the fun during Eat Leeds Restaurant Week. Knave’s Kitchen has a 100% vegan menu, and you don’t have to compromise on the indulgence either, because everything is utterly filthy in the best kind of way.
Seitan, tofu and jackfruit are used to dish up delicacies like sticky Korean BBQ skewers, cornflake battered ‘chicken’ goujons or jerk jackfruit curry with glazed plantain. It’s a total gorge-fest and if you’re still standing by the end, try the homemade waffles with vegan ice cream for dessert.
2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15 at Chaophraya
Mix fine dining with a big old wallop of Asian flavour at this stylish Thai favourite. You’ll dine surrounded by gold trims, contemporary sculptures and mood lighting, but if you think such luxury always comes at a price, think again.
Sink your teeth into some of their best-loved dishes like red curry chicken tacos or juicy pork belly crisped to perfection and served with a punchy base of garlic, chillies and fresh basil leaves. Two courses will set you back just £10, but there’s a melt-in-the-middle chocolate fondant lurking on the dessert menu. Surely that’s worth the extra fiver for a third course?
A tapas feast at Ambiente from £10
Gather as many friends as you can and go to town on Ambiente’s special menu during Eat Leeds Restaurant Week. It’s filled with all sorts of tempting Spanish morsels and sharing is caring with three tapas plates for just £10.
There are the classics, like spicy patatas bravas and hearty beef meatballs in a tomato and chorizo sauce, but you can expect a few curveballs too. Don’t miss the spiced skirt of beef with South American chimichurri or the grilled Basque sausage served on a simple bed of creamy potato puree. Feeling thirsty? For £15 you can get the three tapas plates, plus a glass of wine, beer or virgin sangria to wash it all down with.
A creative tasting menu at Vice and Virtue from £15
Vice and Virtue is famed for its masterful tasting menus and you can try them for less during Eat Leeds Restaurant Week. With renowned local chef Jono Hawthorn at the helm, you can choose between three courses for £15 or five for £25 – and it’s an absolute steal for tasting menus of this calibre.
Whichever you choose, you’ll be treated to the same freshly foraged fare that makes Vice and Virtue such an exciting place to dine. Think pig’s cheek with peach and fennel or Yorkshire’s take on the Portuguese custard tart, topped with gooseberry and sweet wine.
2 courses plus a drink at Gusto for £10
Filling and oh-so-fresh, Italian food is one of life’s simple pleasures. Now you can enjoy it for even less, as refined restaurant Gusto is serving up two courses for £10 or three for £15 during Eat Leeds Restaurant Week.
Whet your appetite with a glass of house wine or beer, before choosing between handmade mushroom arancini balls with truffled mayonnaise, pan fried sea bass fillet with creamed spinach, or sweet bomboloni. This Italian dessert is a type of filled donut and Gusto crams theirs with Biscoff dip and Chantilly cream. Yum!
Burgers for less with MEATliquor’s £10 deal
MEATliquor has long been a playground for the city’s carnivores. The American dive bar vibe makes it a whole lot of fun, and trust us, you’ll want to swing by during Eat Leeds Restaurant Week because you can get your hands on any burger with regular fries and a side of crispy battered pickles for just £10.
They have all the chicken and cheeseburgers you’d expect, but with a deal this good, why not push the boat out and sample the Philly Cheesesteak? It sandwiches together layers of delicate shaved steak, oozy cheese, onions and peppers between two buns. Fill your boots.
2 courses for £10 at Zaap
Escape for a night of unrivalled gorging at one of Leeds’ most atmospheric eateries. Zaap takes Thai street food and combines it with a decor that makes you feel like you’re right in the heart of a bustling Bangkok market.
Pick a tuk-tuk and in no time you’ll be sampling grilled chicken satay skewers, fried gyoza dumplings, classic Pad Thai noodles or fragrant Thai green curry. In between your two courses for £10, there’s plenty to feast your eyes on. From flashing neon lights to giant murals, hanging lanterns and authentic Thai adverts, there’s not a dull moment at Zaap.
3 courses for £15 at Sky Lounge
For sky-high dining without the lofty prices, hot-foot it over to Sky Lounge on the 13th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton. With incredible views over central Leeds and the River Aire, you don’t want to spend all your time umming and ahhing over a menu. Luckily, they keep things simple with a bunch of small plates up for grabs.
Veggies have oodles of choice, including crispy falafel bites with lemon chilli dip, oozy mac and cheese or a feta and walnut salad with zingy yuzu dressing. There’s cola-glazed sticky ribs for meat-lovers, plus lobster and crab rolls for the fish-fanatics. Dine on three dishes for £15, then come back next week to try three more – there’s more than enough choice for return visits.
Arancini and two slices of pizza for £10 at Simpatico
Carb up and chow down at this pizza-by-the-slice hotspot in Queens Arcade. You can kick off proceedings with one of Simpatico’s famous arancini balls. They’re so full of oozy, ricey goodness they regularly sell out, so get there early. Then it’s time to move onto their freshly made pizza al taglio – all for a measly tenner.
An obsession with fresh ingredients and exciting flavours means the menu changes every day. You need never eat the same thing twice. Buttermilk fried chicken pizza, courgette flower and artichoke pizza, even a Yorkshire pudding pizza – simply rock up to the counter, make your selection and never look back.
2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15 at Cosy Club
Cosy by name and quirky by nature, there’s no better place to curl up on a giant leather sofa and dine out on some mighty fine food than Cosy Club. Everything is designed with your comfort in mind, from the opulent furniture to the crowd-pleasing menus. Plus, there are vegan and gluten-free options every step of the way so nobody need miss out.
For Eat Leeds Restaurant Week, the Mediterranean plate is a generous starter that comes laden with goodies like chunky falafel, hummus, pomegranate seeds and pickled cabbage. Afterwards, try the roast turmeric cauliflower with kale crisps or beef patty brioche burger. And for dessert? You’ve got a decadent chocolate orange torte to look forward to.
