If you love beer, a tasting experience is a must. It’s the perfect chance to try a line-up of different beers, complete with tasting notes from an expert, so you know how the beers are made and the flavours you’re looking out for. Leeds is home to bars and breweries where you can go on a carousel of hoppy discovery, one beer at a time. Who knows? You might just find your next favourite tipple.

BrewDog don’t just do beer tastings – they invite you to join their Beer School. Their tutored sessions are some of the best in Leeds, and take place at their spacious North Street bar. You’ll start with an expert talk from a Cicerone beer sommelier-trained crew member. They’ll introduce you to BrewDog and their history, before you try five different beers, paired with cheese, with an insight into each one. It’s £20 per person and you can book it whenever you like.

Springwell Brewery

If you want to see the exciting things North Brewing Co. are up to, their hour-long guided brewery tour and tasting is a must. You’ll be shown around their Springwell home, learning what they do and how they do it, before you get to taste their wares. The beer tasting is led by one of their expert team who will take you through a series of their most popular brews, as well as some of their rarer creations. It’s £10 per person and takes place every Friday to Sunday.

The Botanist

The Botanist

The Botanist offers four different beer-tasting experiences at their Trinity Leeds bar. Go on a time-travelling adventure through The History of Ales or find out the answer to What is Craft? Both are £30 a pop. For £25, you can go on a European beer adventure with the best of the continent or for just £20 you’ll get to taste the finest beers made in Britain. Each session lasts 90 minutes, can be booked any day of the week and is available for a minimum of six people.

Brewtown Tours

Brewtown Beer Tours

Brewtown take you on a tour of three of the city’s best breweries and you get to enjoy a tasting in each one. You’ll be picked up in their minibus at The Queens, before heading to Quirky Ales in Garforth, Northern Monk Brew Co. in Holbeck and North Brewing Co. in Meanwood. You’ll learn about what they do, from how they make their regular beers to one-offs they produce, before trying out a range of tipples. It’s £70 per person and they take place every Saturday.

Yorkshire Wine School

Beer tasting from wine experts? It may sound crazy, but trust us, Yorkshire Wine School know what they’re talking about. They host semi-regular events at various Leeds venues, but their Grape vs Grain nights at North Brewing Co City Tap are the stuff of legend. They pair a beer and a wine with a trio of bao buns made by Little Bao Boy and you get to pick which one goes down best. Tickets are £40 and the events happen on Monday nights, every three months.

Kirkstall Brewery

Kirkstall Brewery Tap and Kitchen

You get bang for your buck at Kirkstall Brewery, because their beer tastings follow a guided tour of their beer-making Mecca. Brewer and tasting expert Rob will lead you around their extensive facilities, teaching you about the area’s rich brewing heritage, how they make their beer and the processes involved. Then it’s back into their taproom where you get to sample three of their seasonal creations with tasting notes. It costs £10 and takes place on Saturdays.
