Tavernaki is best known for its Mediterranean skewers, but they have one dish that’s even meatier – the Poikilia platter. This is a traditional Greek feast designed for two to share, but if you want it all to yourself, we’re not here to judge. You’ll get copious tender cuts of pork, lamb, chicken and Cypriot sausage, all marinated in olive oil and their special blend of Greek herbs. You can stave off the meat sweats with rice, chips, domades and fasolada.

Tavernaki, 18 Great George Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3DW.

Fresh rotisserie chicken from Poco

Poco takes a simple roast chicken to the next level. Pollo arrosto, that’s rotisserie chicken to you and me, is one of their tastiest specialities – they marinate their birds in a super-secret Sicilian marinade 24 hours before they go into the rotisserie oven to slow cook. The result is a wonderfully tender chicken that you can order as a quarter, half or, if you’re going all out, a full bird – with a side of patate rustiche, it’s a meal fit for a king or queen.

Poco, 360 Kirkstall Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS4 2HQ & 24 Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS6 2AD.

Endless meats from Fazenda

Fazenda Leeds

If there’s one thing carnivores love, it’s an endless supply of meat, so why not visit Leeds’ original Brazilian barbecue? Fazenda is the standard-bearer when it comes to all-you-can-eat carnivorous dining and they’ve created a meaty heaven on Granary Wharf. Flip your card to green and they’ll bring you everything from filét mignon to picanha rump, pork sausage and gammon with pineapple. If you’re feeling daring, try their traditional, juicy chicken hearts.

Fazenda, Waterman’s Place, Unit 4-7 Granary Wharf, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 4GL.

Piles of lamb döner from Döner Shack

Doner Shack

Ever had a sober, regret-free kebab? Believe us, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Döner Shack serve up traditional Berlin kebabs and they’ll completely change how you view the humble fast-food staple. Their Classic Lamb Döner is an absolute must. You get lean, tender cuts of proper lamb döner meat, served on a pita or fries. Take your pick of the fresh veggies behind the counter, load on all manner of sauces and pair it with a Fritz-Kola or Berliner beer.

Yorkshire is known for its love of good ol’ pies, but if you haven’t been to Dave’s yet, you’re missing out on all kinds of pastry-encased joy. This popular Kirkstall Road bolthole has mastered the art of the pork pie – you can get pork paired with everything from chorizo to chilli, Stilton to stuffing, served chilled or hot, with peas and a duo of sauces, brown and mint. Couple yours with a pint of fresh local cask ale and don’t be surprised if you go back for more.

Trust us when we say there’s not another burrito quite like The Mexican Pilgrim’s – they are as big as your head and you wouldn’t want it any other way. You can get it filled with pork carnitas in a red wine & chipotle BBQ sauce or try their marinated minced beef, but whatever you go for, their spectacular combination of meat, refried beans, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo will threaten to spill out of the sides. Top tip – grab napkins. Lots of napkins.

The Mexican Pilgrim can be found at Central Square, Wellington Place or Leeds Dock throughout the week.

A board filled with charcuterie is a carnivore’s dream – and The Assembly serve one of the best in Leeds. They source all of their delightful meats from the award-winning Lishman’s of Ilkley and you’ll soon taste why they’re of such acclaim. Chorizo Salami, Cured Pork Coppa, Cured Pork Lomo, Pork & Fennel Salami and Pepperoni and Red Wine Salami – the meaty possibilities are seemingly endless, but taste even better with Yorkshire cheese to boot.

The Assembly, Terminus Parade, Station Road, Crossgates, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS15 7JZ & 67 Main Street, Garforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS25 1AF.

Sharing boards of Argentinian steak from Gaucho

Gaucho Sampler

Gaucho is manna-from-heaven for meat lovers. The swish dining room is the perfect setting to eat yourself into steak-induced bliss, but instead of choosing from their platters of fresh Argentinian beef, pair up with a carnivorous partner and attack the incredible Gaucho Sampler. It’s 1.2 kilos of beefy joy, all from grass-fed, Black Angus cattle – you get a cut of cuadril (rump), chorizo (sirloin), ancho (ribeye) and loco (fillet) to share between two.

Gaucho, 21-22 Park Row, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5JF.

Stacked smash burgers from Kerbside Kids

Kerbside Kids

North Brewing Co’s Springwell brewery tap isn’t just about beer – you can also get a mighty mouthful of meaty brilliance courtesy of Kerbside Kids. They’re purveyors of smash burgers, an incredibly popular style that sees quality meat bashed up into delicious, almost flat patties that are stacked high. You can’t go wrong when you keep it simple – their 4-ounce cheeseburgers are stuffed into soft brioche buns, covered with American cheese and burger sauce.

Kerbside Kids, Springwell, Buslingthorpe Lane, Meanwood, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS7 2DF.

Loaded Pitmaster trays from Red’s True BBQ

Red's True BBQ, BBQ Feast

Red’s offers mastery of classic American BBQ, meats cooked low and slow until they fall off the bone. They do everything from ribs to brisket, but why limit yourself to just one? Get their Feasting menu between two and try it all. This meat-obsessed dish brings together smoked belly pork, baby back ribs, XXXL wings, chopped pork, smoked chicken and cheese & jalapeño sausage, with fries, meaty pit beans, pickled gherkins, onion rings and slaw on the side.
