This unforgettable menu has been created by Simon Jewitt, Head Chef at Crafthouse. He’s a local boy done good. Born in Harrogate, he has over 25 years of experience at high-end restaurants like The Tannin Level and Norse. Now he’s bringing his culinary genius to Crafthouse and the result is a modern European menu that takes inspiration from all over the world.

But this menu is special. It’s been created just for us and will be available exclusively from Monday 2nd January to Saturday 4th February 2023. This is a wonderfully relaxed, leisurely dining experience, so you’ll have time to savour every bite and even compare notes after. No rush, no pressure, just delicious food, good company and good times.

Expect original, artfully prepared dishes

Dinner begins with Baked Potato Espuma, a hot potato mousse. They infuse milk with potato skins to conjure the rich, comforting flavours of a buttery baked potato. Soft, melt-in-your-mouth leeks pickled in Chardonnay vinegar cut through that richness, as does the gremolata of breadcrumbs, brown butter, lovage and onion. There’s a chicken fat soldier for dipping too!

Next up is Cod Cheek Schnitzel. It’s fish and chips, but not as you know it. Skrei cod, the gold standard of cod, is coated in breadcrumbs and lightly fried to crispy perfection. It’s served on a bed of Lyonnaise celeriac, slowly caramelised, then topped with steamed mussels and pickled wakame seaweed. The kicker? Vadouvan sauce, a subtle, refined take on a chip shop curry.

That leads neatly on to the Braised Yorkshire Ox Cheek. It’s hearty, it’s sticky, it’s achingly familiar, and yet, it’s taken to a whole new level. Brined for 12 hours, sealed on the josper and cooked overnight, it’s so tender you barely have to chew. They pair it with a sticky sauce, a rich, creamy tartiflette, made with pastrami, not bacon, and carrots infused with rich, beefy flavours.

And to finish? Chocolate and Coconut Marquise. It’s an intense, silky yet dense mousse made with milk chocolate, coconut macaron mix and gluten-free chocolate sponge infused with espresso to balance out the sweetness of the dish. They add a dash of Malibu for an intoxicating twist and serve it with dairy-free coconut ice cream, toasted coconut and fragrant lemon balm.

Veggie? You won’t miss out. Your first course will have a tasty twist on the soldier, and the two meat courses will be replaced. How does maple roasted beetroot with ginger buttermilk and dill crisps sound? And for your main, there’s Portobello mushroom en croute, served with a medley of vegetables and a truffle sauce that will make you want to lick the plate clean.

The beauty of this menu is that each course leads seamlessly into the next, taking you on an edible adventure from starter to dessert, but you can make it even better by adding a handpicked wine pairing for an extra £35 per person. So if you want to make a night of it and turn dinner into a delicious double tasting experience, you need only ask.
