Summer of Soave

Ipsum Vinoteca is hosting a free wine tasting, featuring the finest tipples from one of Italy’s most promising regions.

Italy makes more wine than any other country in the world, but with so much choice, how do you know you’ve found your perfect tipple? That’s the question Sarah Abbott, a Master of Wine and an ambassador for Soave wines in the UK, will be asking when she comes to Ipsum Vinoteco on Tuesday 4th July 2017. She’s showcasing Cru Soave, a wine that simply hasn’t had the attention it deserves in recent years, and you’ll have a chance to try it for yourself, at her free wine tasting.

Summer of Soave

There will be more than 20 wines for you to try, all from different vineyards in the Venetian hills. It’ll show off the best single vineyard sites you’ll come across, from world-class cooperatives to small family estates. To go alongside it, they’re putting together a range of Italian cheese and charcuterie boards for the perfect taste combo.

Sarah told us what to expect, “It is an informal, walk-around tasting where you will have the opportunity to try around 20 wines from the region, and I will be on hand to give more insight to anyone who wants to know more – from details about Soave’s volcanic terroir, to the taste profile of the wines.”

This is one of just four events taking place in the UK to showcase the quality wines that come from Veneto. It’s one of the biggest producers of wines anywhere in Italy, and this is their opportunity to show off a range of quality wines from a diverse range of producers.

Abbott went into a bit more detail about the region’s wine offering, “There are two main grape varieties in Soave. Trebbiano di Soave has traditionally always been present in the vineyards, though it has gradually given way to the more exuberant Garganega. But in recent years it has shown itself to be the ideal partner in new enological profiles for the Soave of the future, its tangy liveliness blending with the typical structure and density of the Garganega variety.”

If you love wine, make a beeline for Ipsum Vinoteca this July, especially considering Summer of Soave is free – although they do ask you to register for the event in advance.
