The Brewers Market is back at Canal Mills with a special summer festival that will show off the best beers from Yorkshire and beyond.
This year’s Leeds Indie Food kicks off with the Brewers Market on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th May 2018. It’s returning to Canal Mills for its fourth year, but in a brand new summer slot which coincides with the first weekend of the city-wide food and drink festival.
“This year will be our biggest Brewers Market yet with more breweries than ever before and over 100 different local and international beers to sample,” Lance Holden, one of the festival’s organisers, told us. “Thanks to our new summer slot, we’ll be able to use both the indoor and outdoor spaces at Canal Mills making more room for extra breweries, a wider range of street food and some other hidden gems.”
First up, let’s talk breweries. Canal Mills is going to be a who’s who of the most popular and innovative beer makers around. Yorkshire’s breweries are out in force, so you can expect old favourites and one-off creations by Kirkstall, Northern Monk, Thornbridge, Vocation, Wilde Child, Legitimate Industries and Zapato.
They’ve also got some really interesting additions from the rest of the UK. The big one is Falmouth’s small batch brewery Verdant, who have built up a big reputation over the past 12 months with creative pales, IPAs and DIPAs. There’s more – you’ll also be able to try brews from Manchester’s Track and Blackjack, Liverpool’s Black Lodge, Derbyshire’s Buxton and London’s Camden Town.
It’s not just a festival for beer aficionados though. For this year’s Brewers Market, they’ll have a new bar for gin. Make a beeline for the Ableforth’s stall, which will offer a menu of tempting cocktails made using their award-winning Bathtub Gin.
With so much booze on offer, you’ll no doubt need a bite to eat to keep you going and you can try some of the North’s best street food. Sela Bar is going to bring its Little Red Food Truck to cook up burgers alongside Little Bao Boy, The Mussel Pot, Mor Mor and The Rabbit Hole. You can also have a boogie with the Brudenell Groove DJs and guest DJs from partners Stone Brewing.
“With tens of breweries and over 100 different beers from a wide range of breweries, plus gin and wine, there’ll be something for everyone and all tastes,” Lance told us. “The sun will hopefully be out in force to top off a day or evening of drinking some of the finest craft beers on the market alongside some of the best local street food in a relaxed, friendly environment.”
With its new summer slot and a mightily impressive line-up, the Brewers Market is going to be one of the best beer festivals of the year.
Brewers Market takes over Canal Mills on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th May 2018. There are three sessions – 5pm to 12am on Friday night, 12pm to 5pm on Saturday afternoon and 6pm to 12am on Saturday night. Tickets are £8 per session.
