Tequila, lime and salt… you already know what time it is.
Margaritas are the cocktail of the hour, there’s no doubt about that. But where’s best to get them in Leeds? We’ve taken it upon ourselves to try and test the city’s best, and have rounded them up right here for you. See how many you can get through.
Rita’s Beerhouse & Ballroom

Rita’s has taken the concept of a Margarita and spun it on its head. First up, pick your rim – salty or spicy. Then choose your flavour, from strawberry puree or classic to spicy or peachy. Our favourite, though, has to be the Margarita slushie, served in a classic red cup with a chunky straw to sip through. The brain freeze is so worth it, trust us.
Where? Rita’s Beerhouse & Ballroom, 43 Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3HQ.
How much? Margaritas range from £6 to £9.
Neon Cactus

Given that Neon Cactus is a vibrant Mexican bar that specialises in all types of tequila, it’s a given they know how to shake up a mean Marg. They come six ways – classic, Tommy’s, Tortilla mezcal, Margherita (with olive oil and vine tomato shrub) and frozen strawberry, but the real standout is the Neon Cactus Margarita. The addition of red grapes, ginger and apple gives it a real kick that’ll keep you coming back.
Where? Neon Cactus, 35 Call Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 7BT.
How much? Margaritas range from £11 to £12.
Outlaws Yacht Club

Just the name of Outlaws Yacht Club’s Margarita is enough to make it one of the best in Leeds. The ‘Kirkgate Market-rita’ is served with that all-important salty rim, tequila and fresh lime juice. What really sets it apart, though, is the use of passion fruit and green tea syrup to cut through the sourness with fruity deliciousness. Yum.
Where? Outlaws Yacht Club, 38 New York Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 7DY.
How much? Margaritas are £9.95.
Green Room

Picture this: you’re kicking back on Green Room’s terrace with all your friends. What could make this better? One of their tasty Margaritas, of course. They come a whopping five ways – with the current winter specials featuring spicy mango, honey & pineapple, watermelon & basil, apricot & peach, and blood orange & cranberry. They mix things up with the season, too, so you’re sure to find your flavour.
Where? Green Room, 36 Wellington Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 2DE.
How much? Margaritas are £11.95.
Hooleos

Hooleos is somewhat of a hidden gem. The casual eatery is tucked away on Horsforth’s Town Street but cooks up some of the best, most authentic Mexican food in Leeds – not to mention the Margaritas. You could try a classic, lime, strawberry or spicy passion fruit one, but we couldn’t resist a giant sharer. Grab a group of friends, some straws and dig in.
Where? Hooleos, 20 Town Street, Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS18 4RJ.
How much? Margaritas are £9.75 and giant Margaritas are £27.
Farrands

You may know Farrands as the place to go in Leeds for a glass of wine, but did you know they also make a mean Margarita? Available as part of their Tiny Tipples offering, you’ll get a fun-sized Margarita made with only the finest El Tequileno Blanco tequila, as well as two other tiny delights. We recommend going for the Daiquiri and the gin Martini for the perfect balance of flavours.
Where? Farrands, 18 Swinegate, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 4AG,
How much? Tiny tipples are £4.50 each or a flight of 3 for £12.

Calling all spicy Marg lovers! Melodie 71 does a fine line in Margaritas, be it classic or spicy, but the latter is what they’re most known for. You’ll be asked how spicy you want it on a level from 1-10, before deciding upon a rim of your choice – salt or tajin. It’ll be half and half for us, please. Served with fresh chillis on top, it has a real kick.
Where? Melodie 71, 71 Commercial Road, Kirkstall, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS5 3AT.
How much? Margaritas are £9.45.
