Out of This World
A stalwart of the organic shop scene in Leeds for over ten years, Out of This World is steadfast in its principles of delivering organic, Fairtrade, eco-friendly, local and healthy food options to the people of Leeds. It’s one of the largest of its kind in the city centre, offering an extensive range of food and household products, some of which you won’t get anywhere else.
As well as a chiller packed with plant-based substitutes, there’s a 100% vegan deli counter and bakery, with tempting locally made sweet and savoury treats (everything in moderation, eh?). Some of them are also free from refined sugar and gluten, making it one of the best places to go in Leeds for chocolate and cakes if you keep to specialist diets.

The Natural Food Store
Headingley is home to The Natural Food Store, a community-run organic shop. It’s owned by over 200 local residents and customers, giving the neighbourhood a real alternative to the big supermarkets. They specialise in providing natural remedies and whole foods, as well as eco-friendly toiletries and household goods for a reasonable price.
Pick up everything from a freshly baked loaf from Headingley’s Artisan Bakery and ‘bagged-up’ products like dried beans, to organic Green & Black’s hot chocolate powder and Suma pea and vegan ham soup! It’s a predominantly vegetarian shop, but you’ll find a wide range of vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free products stocked too.

The Organic Pantry
For over 20 years, this family-run organic farm has been providing the north of England with tasty fruits and veggies. Not only do they grow the majority of the produce themselves, they deliver it directly to your door. You can also spot them at various farmers’ markets around the city, if you want to pick out your goods yourself.
Available on a subscription basis, they have small, medium and large veg boxes with different fruits and vegetables each week depending on their harvest and the season. But it’s not just fresh produce, oh no. They also stock everything from dairy substitutes to deodorants, all organic or ethically sourced.

Vinceremos
If it’s an organic tipple you’re hankering after, then Vinceremos has got you covered. It’s a small, specialist company with a wide range of organic and vegan wines, beers, ciders, spirits and even soft drinks on offer. The wines are sourced directly from artisan vineyards across the world, focusing on those that are small and family run, so you won’t find them in the supermarket.
Instead, you can get independent, ethical tipples straight to your door. A bottle certainly won’t break the bank, with the wine selection starting from as little as £5.49. There are two Holland & Barrett stores in the city centre, one in Trinity Leeds and the other in the Merrion Centre, making it an easily accessible way to get a hold of organic and vegan health foods. They’ve been going for over 145 years, selling branded and own-label products, ranging from food and drink to vitamins, nutrition, supplements and beauty.
Pick up nutritional yeast for cooking with, a refreshing kombucha to perk up your afternoon or a vegan protein powder to fuel your workout – there’s lots to choose from here. They even have a freezer where you can get your favourite healthy and organic ice cream, dairy-free meat substitutes and more.
